Best home air purifiers of 2025
I’ve been researching the best home air purifiers for the past few days because i need one to improve indoor air quality. i read reviews on The New York Times, Consumer Reports, and Ratings, and they are marking these two as the best:
Coway Airmega AP-1512HH

BLUEAIR Blue Pure 211i Max

However, i am having trouble deciding which one would best suit my needs and need your expert advice.
in my home, i have a pet, seasonal allergies, and live in an area with occasional smoke from wildfires. I need a purifier that effectively removes dust, pet dander, pollen, and odors while covering a large area.
Which one should I buy? Any recommendations will be appreciated!
Thnaks in advance!

Us on MCC are not experts but glad to give you my expereince.
I was using Levoit air purifiers for several years. However over a year ago I started using BlueAir. Why? Consumer Reports rated them number one. I liked all the different sizes for different size rooms. I have the large ones for areas like living rooms, and then the smaller ones for individual rooms.
They are excellent. The filters last longer than mosts and you can purchased different type of filters to address specific irritants. I had an issue with one device and it was replaced immediately with no hassle. Their customer service is outstanding.
The type BlueAir I have has an external dust filter. You can buy different colors. You can see when dust starts to form. The good thing about them is they can be washed and put back on. We have been taking ours off each month and washing them. We ordered extra ones so when washing we can put another one on while washing the other.
I hope this helped.
Thanks for sharing your experience. it is great that BlueAir has been working well for you especially with the different filter options and washable pre-filters which is big advantage for long-term use.
but i am also considering the Coway Airmega AP-1512HH it is more affordable and has a sleek stylish design. Have you or anyone else here tried it?
Prior to purchasing our air purifiers I did a ton a research and ended up buying Winix. I remember deciding between Winix and Conway. This Reddit thread helped educate me. It took days to comb through it but I'm glad I did. I tend to steer clear of NYT Wirecutter as they have a "vested" interest in what you purchase, (aka affiliate links). Not sure about Consumer Reports but I think they have affiliate links too.
Botton line it depends on what your needs are. If VOCs are in the mix be prepared to spend more money.

Once again, I'll be the contrarian. We use 4 HEPA room sized filters in our 2 homes. We had purchased CR top-rated filters around 10 years ago, and after time, the vendors were gone on one brand, new models had come out on the other and we couldn't get parts.
So, I looked for something that would - give good if not top performance, was widely available and had a long history behind it, used the same filters over a wide range of models.
I settled on the Honeywell Insight series, tried one for a year, and found it easy to use and maintain. We now own 4 of them in 3 different sizes. I buy the filters directly from Honeywell, pre-filter by the roll and cut it easily to fit each machine. Identical HEPA filters 12 or 20 at a time depending on price.
After 4+ years I'm a satisfied customer, one machine was noisier than the others, they replaced it without question after 7 months.
We recently bought an Austin and are happy with it. So easy to operate and use so I actually use it. My previous air purifier was clumsy and complicated so I never used it. The Austin comes on wheels so we put it in one half of the house for 12 hours and then the other half for 12 hours.
I use HONEYWELL also and have for years. I buy new filters every three months for them. Change pre filter every month. I use FILTRETE 1900 in my HVAC .
i am still leaning toward blueair, but also curious has anyone here used the coway? it looks decent and is more affordable. would love to hear some real experiences with it! and then make final decision to purchase any of these two
I bought the Coway Air Mega 200 a couple years ago and have been happy with it. My asthma is mild though and I’m not allergic to dust. I use it part time when young grandkids visit and during pollen season. We seldom have smoke, but I used it a couple years ago when it blew in and it helped.
my room is about 400 square feet. how much area Coway Air Mega 200 is covering?
I don’t recall and am not home to measure, but as I recall, when I found the different models, if gave the info.
