Benign Liver Tumors intervention beyond TAE and Surgery
I have a female friend in her mid-forties who has been diagnosed with HNF1A in-activated mutated hepatocellular adenoma. She does not fit the typical profile of someone with this condition. She has never used oral contraceptives, is not obese, has never used anabolic steroids, and hasn't used non-contraceptive estrogen supplements. The concerning adenoma is roughly 5.8 cm and is located in segment 7 of the liver. She has several other smaller adenomas located in other segments of the liver. She has consulted multiple liver groups and received varying opinions. The bottom line is the groups she's consulted have either recommended surgery or TAE, neither of which she would like at this time. Since this subtype is known to be fed by estrogen is anyone aware of any research which suggests that reducing exposure to any form of estrogen or estrogen mimics could reduce the size of this type of adenoma. This would include both internal and external sources. She's had both CT with contrast and MRI with gadolinium to both locate and characterize the adenomas.

tomc105clinic: My liver “not to worry” lesions (cyst-like they reported) were finally (after several 2nd opinions) diagnosed as Neuroendocrine Carcinoma tumors with primary tumor biopsied in duodenum area of small intestine.
Although I thoroughly understand the choice to accept “all is well”… in hindsight I wish I had continued my proactive search for accurate diagnosis. I am very grateful for the NET specialist I found at City of Hope who has guided my care.
