Back injury pain

Posted by @lauraine1945, Jul 6, 2016

During open heart surgery, the rib at T11 was pulled from the vertabrae causing a compression fracture. The healing of this fracture over the past years is causing more and more pain in the disc. I am not having much luck in finding a thoracic back surgeon to view the issue. I certainly do not want to take pain meds that will eventually damage my heart. I live in Northwestern Alberta, Canada.

Hi @lauraine1945. Welcome to Connect! It’s nice to meet you (virtually) 🙂 Can I ask what methods you are currently using (or have tried) to manage the pain?

I’m tagging @martishka, @lesleighjarrett, @ladyjane85 and @bonniecanby who have all posted about compression fractures and can hopefully provide some advice and support!

Also, here are two other threads on Connect that you may want to check out:

Hello Kelseydm, for 2 or 3 of my lumbar compression fractures I did not
recognize them becI was always in bad pain from my back anyway, even after
4 then 5 surgeries. But several months ago when I had a T6 fracture it was
X-rayed bec it made me cry with the raising of an arm – it goes afound the
ribs to under the breast. Saw my neurosurgeon about the 6th week and he
mentioned he could use the cement method which is minor surgery. I was too
far into it so refused thinking it would soon be healed. But it hurt longer
than the lumbar ones. So the method of the surgeon making a small incision
to put in a balloon to space the area a bit then cementing it is it –
otherwise, you just grin and bear it with pain meds which I cannot
take….. @ladyjane85 Hoping for the best for you.
