Baby sleep disorder?

I have a 7 month old baby girl who has developed some very serious sleeping issues in the last 2 or 3 months. I will mention that she was born a month premature due to an emergency situation. I believe it is because of this that we have dealt with colic, digestive issues, and now the sleeping problems. Bedtime is a huge battle with her crying and screaming. When we finally do get her to sleep it’s still not over. The then wakes up every hour crying. Nap time is also a constant battle and she rarely gets a nap longer than 30 minutes long. Because of this cycle she is constantly cranky and my husband and I are exhausted. Her pediatrician has diagnosed her with GERD and she has tried two different medications for it. I do not, however, believe this has anything to do with her sleeping issues. We have tried sleep training but nothing has worked. I am wondering if anyone has gone through something similar to this or if they know of any sleep disorders in infants. Any information on this would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried taking her to a sleep clinic? My son was born 3 months premature and didn’t have as much trouble sleeping as your little one, but he snored a little and was a little bit behind developmentally also. So the Mayo NICU/Development Clinic referred us to the Mayo Sleep Clinic. We did an over night test at home, basically an oximeter that measures his oxygen saturations levels. He had enough desaturations that prompted an overnight (outpatient) stay in the sleep clinic. Where they placed leads all over his head and monitored him through the night. He was diagnosed with a slight sleep apnea that eventually went away on its own by age 2. But in your case it’s worth mentioning to your pediatrician for referral. Dr. Kotegal was excellent in our case.
