i can’t stop coughing and it keeps me up at night. i feel so helpless. the medicine is expensive and i hate buying it and then it not help or work. is there any relief. i had whooping cough as a child and then pneumonia, etc. all my life. now at 60 i wonder if it is worth anything anymore.

IAbout a month ago a normal cold my husband brought home ( he had for 3 days) went right to my chest…the flem was unreal. OTC meds didn’t touch it. I wound up makeing/doing a mustard wrap(compress) front and back for about 10 mins and it kicked that horrible chest congestion/cough out of my system. My grandmother use to use them from time to time…it works very well,.just be sure to time it and check your skin. once it begins to turn a little pink remove the wrap. this past time only took @10 minutes. Last time i did one @7years ago on my daughter it took close to 30 mins. so stay on top of it and keep a close watch. stay warm with lots of layers. hope you feel better soon..

I was a smoker for many years and quit almost 12 years ago. Early last year I noticed I was wheezing some and started Advair. I don’t know if that is what you are on but I didn’t read thru the directions completely and so after my first dose I started coughing almost constantly. I read the directions completely and it says to rinse your mouth when finished or it can cause chronic coughing. Last fall I thought I had a cold but it went into my sinus’ and I suffered 4 months before a stranger told me she had the same problem and her doctor put her on a RX for a Z pack which is a 3 day dose and it worked. Since then I have much mucous drainage (Dr. says a body can produce up to 8 gal. per day) which goes to my bronchia and I cough a lot . Of course I sneeze, blow and sniff a lot as well. When I have a change of body position e.g. sleeping and getting up I start this all over again. Mustard plasters only work for the lungs not the bronchia also you can go online to the drug mfg. and see if they have financial support. I have one drug I get free even though I have insurance my cost would be $110 and they allow an income of $42,000. Not all manufacturers are as generous or are just plain stingy. Good Luck. I am now suffering with Asthma Bronchitis, have been for two weeks, meds: Prednisone; Leviquinn; Albuterol; A steriod nebulizer added; taking 2 lasix for all the fluid (they thought I was having conjestive heart failure ) too : now I have coughed so hard and so much I think I have dislocated a breast implant, great now that would mean operation on boobs number 5, I seem to have this bronc this month every year , usually lasts 4 weeks, i have found that a cool mist vaporiser beside the head of my bed helps with some of the coughing, drinking hot drinks, and the old addage Chicken Soup with lots of pepper, also saw a remedy of : 1/4 tsp of Cumin, 1/4 tsp Honey and mix with some tea and drink it down… hope you feel better soon.

I went back to Doc yesterday, still have coughing too, but it is starting to subside some, he gave me Symbacort to add to the regimen, now that is 2 neb treatments, 2 rescue inhalers…thank goodness he GAVE me the Symbacort, it is expensive, the doctors sometimes have samples , ask if they have any when they prescribe meds for you, my doc gave me 4 inhalers…. Oh yes, one other thing I do that helps : using a NETTIE POT nasal wash, bought it at Wal-Mart, works great to keep down sinus drainage and conjestion , the drainage triggers the coughing if it becomes excessive. Do have a good day, as I will be trying to also… Rexana
