Ascariasis in a 6-month old baby?
The Lab has found Ascariasis roundworms in my 6-month old baby’s stool sample. Pediatrician is puzzled, since the medication for the ascariasis, mebendazole, is not recommended to be given under 2 years. She recommended only a pumpkin seeds for two weeks and than to see what the tests will say, however, I have doubts that that will make any larger improvements, i.e. get rid of it completely.
I seek for an answer from someone who knows what they are taking, since a baby is in question there can be no mistakes.
I already know the methods for sanitation of everything, but I need something that my baby can take orally and what will work.
Thank you!

Update: I have found from an untrusted source that Albendazole can be administered to children from 6 months, but the problem is that there is no syrup nor Pediatritian and Pharmacists know for sure.
Thank you

Hi @aleksandarc. Thanks for your inquiry. I’m sorry to hear what you and your baby are going through! Here is some information about possible treatments for ascariasis- http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/ascariasis/basics/treatment/con-20027084. If Mebendazole isn’t recommended for children under two, Albendazole and Ivermectinare are two other options… i’d ask your doctor about the recommendations for either of those. It also looks like the issue can sometimes resolve on it’s own, so I hope that happens for your baby!
