Anyone using the Aerobika positive oscillating pressure therapy?
Saw a new pulmonologist who advised me to get the Aerobika. I have only using it a couple of days. I use it after using the nebulizer. Right now I am not getting a lot of mucus up but I think I am coughing less. Anyone else have any experience with this device?

Yes, it's ok to sterilize in baby bottle sterilizer. First I soak in soapy water, rinse and at end of day pop in sterilizer.

1 ReactionThank you, I thought it was okay but wanted to be sure. I boiled 2 acapellas once and ruined them in the past… expensive mistake! Oops
That's strange. I thought the instruction manual said boiling was one of the methods for sterilizing. If it were I, I would contact the company to inform them of the melting. Chances are they will send you a replacement.
I have the newer Acapella Choice and instructions say to disinfect in alcohol weekly and clean in soapy water daily. No boiling or microwaving. I’m just keeping the alcohol in a jar, clean the acapella, then dip it in alcohol for 10” soaks, rinse and dry and put lid back on alcohol. Iplan to change it monthly. I exhale only so I think that’ll work.

2 ReactionsMy info must be dated as I do not have a newer one. I routinely boiled my old one. I guess the instructions and materials changed. Thanks for the update. @rbl - hope you see this!

1 ReactionHi! I have 4 Aerobikas in daily rotation. I give them the same cleaning routine I as my Vios sprint nebulizers - wash/soak in hot water with dawn for about 15 min, and rinse well. I rinse them again with sterile or filtered water and place them in a microwave steam bag with sterile water. This steaming process has not damaged any of the equipment. The first aerobika I bought about 6 years ago still works well. I don't think the bottle steralizer would be harder on the aerobika than the steam bags.

2 ReactionsI have used it twice a day. I am not sure if it helped. So far, I seem to have “dry” MAC. Possibly because I incidentally was advised to have a baseline chest CT because of my strong family history of Lung Cancer. My mother, father, my sister, and two of my brothers all died of lung cancer. Surprisingly, (because I was not having any current symptoms) my baseline CT revealed a possible lung infection in one of my lower lobes. It was recommended that I have a CT in three months which turned into every three months for a year. Each CT revealed new and/or worsening pulmonary nodules. Several months ago, I underwent a bronchoscopy with cultures which revealed a MAC infection. Now, I am on the road of MAC antibiotic treatment. I apologize, I think I went down a “rabbit trail”. 😊

2 ReactionsScoop, it’s possible I’m wrong. 😀 I didn’t find manufacturer instructions for cleaning in my box and online info was conflicting. One did say it can be boiled 5 minutes. I ended up using NJH instructions thinking they’d be correct. Here they are.
“How to Clean and Care for the Acapella Choice®
Wash you hands.
Clean the Acapella Choice® every day.
Take the Acapella Choice® apart. There are four parts to take apart.
Daily:
Clean the four parts of the Acapella® daily with Liquid Dish Detergent – Rinse with water.
Disinfect Weekly:
Clean the four parts of the Acapella® with alcohol. Soak both parts in 70% isopropyl alcohol for 5 minutes.
or
Clean the four parts of the Acapella® with hydrogen peroxide. Soak both parts in 3% hydrogen peroxide for 30 minutes.
Note : The Acapella® should NOT be placed in the automatic dishwasher, boiled or bleached.
Shake off excess water.
Drain dry the device. Place each piece downward or rest the pieces on the sides.
Reassemble the device when it is completely dry.”
