Any urinary burning on Orgovyx?

Posted by Russell @nrfuls66, 6 days ago

I started taking Orgovyx about 3 weeks ago. For the last week I've been experiencing a burning sensation when I urinate. No other symptoms of a UTI. I've read that it's a possible side effect but not common. Anyone else experience this?

That is quite unusual. I’ve never heard of anyone having burning sensations while paying after just having Orgovyx. People have radiation and they start to feel that. It is listed as a rare side effect.

It could be you have a urinary tract infection. Something to see the urologist about.

Thanks Jeff. I did see my urologist yesterday. No UTI.
He increased my Flomax x2 per day.
It's one of those things that the body has to adapt to. I did an AI search and it said it is a side effect but rare. So now I'm looking at the side effects of Flomax twice a day to combat the side effects of the Orgovyx. Lol. It's all uncharted territory at this point.

Yep...Take D/E/F to combat the side effects of A/B/C.

It's becoming boring and tiresome. 🫩

Isn't there an old song about this?

@nrfuls66, how long are you taking it for? does diet or exercise impact the side effects? what’s been the impact on sleep and energy levels?

@ezupcic I've been on orgovyx for 3 weeks. Urologist said I need to be on it for 2 years. So far the only change I see is the burning symptoms and that seems to be going away. I've always been very active. I'm 67 but feel much younger.

@nrfuls66 Be cautious about the Flomax (Tamsulosin) 2x per day. If you look at the #1 adverse side-effect of Tamsulosin, it’s dizziness.

During my 28 proton radiation treatments, I was on Tamsulosin 2x per day during days 3 - 28. I finished proton treatments (rang the bell); the next morning I couldn’t get out of bed…..the worst case of vertigo I could imagine. Simply opening my eyes would set the room spinning. My wife contacted my RO and he said to stop taking the Tamsulosin. (D’uh!) My wife also looked it up online and read that the side-effects should quickly wear off. By that evening I was fine.

As it turned out, I was also on blood pressure medication and the combination of Tamsulosin (which lowers BP) and my BP medication taken together are what likely caused my extreme dizziness. (I’m much more cautious these days about combinations of medicines.)

Just a cautionary note.

I had discomfort while peeing about 8 weeks after ending orgovyx (I had SBRT and 120 days of orgovyx). I was concerned it was from the radiation. My doctors recommended discontinuing flomax (I have very little trouble peeing - but do have urgency) and it seems to work fine. He did say it is uncommon that flomax would cause the issue, but all is well now. Hydration was emphasized with his recommendation, and I am (was not) very aware of water intake now. It helps me to stay hydrated.

How ADT affects us is quite different from one person to the next. I’ve been on ADT for nine years. Lupron For six years and Orgovyx For the last three. I’ll be 79 in a month and It has not affected my energy at all. I go dancing on Saturdays and people I’ve talked to there thought. I was 10 years younger than I am. I walk on the track across the street twice a day every day for a mile. I go as fast as I can, Complete the mile in less than 20 minutes. I used to run, but my orthopedist said I’ll have to have my hip replaced again, soon, if I keep doing it.

Hopefully your little level of side effects is going to continue. Try to get to the gym a couple of times a week at least or your muscles will deteriorate a lot. Make sure to get a DEXA scan soon so you know what the condition of your bones is. The drugs will greatly deteriorate bones.
