Any Success With Natural Treatments for Essential Thrombocythemia?

Posted by lisa1968 @lisa1968, Sep 13, 2023

Hello, I was just diagnosed yesterday with ET and I have the MPL EXON 10 MUTATION. My doctor put me on baby aspirin and hydroxurea. I didn't know that was a chemo drug until I looked it up.
I'm not going go take it, I want to try natural things. Have you tried any natural things? Did it help?

I'm starting on vitamin D3, tonic water with quinine, & Allicin. These are the only things i've read about last night a i'm just beginning my search for info to try and help myself. My platelets are in the low 700's and i'm 55 years old.

Have you heard of any other natural things to lower platelets? That's my goal right now. Thanks for reading.

Can you tell me what supplements you are taking to lower your platelets? Obviously, what you're doing is working well for you

Ok, but for starters, this is not just to lower my platelets. Some is post-menopause and to keep my height of only 5' tall!

I take a multiple and add extra C, D3 and a K2, boron, also Zinc during cold and flu season, Probiotics daily, Resveratrol, and a few more combination supplements. Nattokinese was added by my heme doc, now taking it twice a day. Each time my blood is tested, my doc decides if he needs to adjust the dosage based on my numbers. I take more Vit D in the winter (10,000 mg/day when I'm in Michigan, but none when I'm vacationing in FL as my levels stay in the 80's when I'm there).

This is what works for me - but please, please work with your doc! I wasn't absorbing the D3 (levels below 40) until he added K2. Does everyone need K2? I don't know and I wouldn't want to guess. Vit D is necessary, but too much is not good either. I once went over 100 (when I was in FL for a month and out in the sunshine daily), so I was told not to take any while I was there.

One more thing - whatever you choose to take, be sure to tell your doc. And if your primary puts you on supplements, tell your heme doc and vice versa. You can take mega does of Vit C and you'll pee out the extra - no real harm. But others, like Vit D can be too much and throw something else out of balance.

When your blood it thick, it's hard on your heart to pump it and your brain may lack the needed oxygen causing tissue damage. (Infarction) I believe oxygen during the night when your sleeping would do wonders. If your blood pressure is running high it may be pulmonary hypertension, however I believe oxygen therapy is great at night with this disease. Eat anti inflammatory foods and have a Hemi follow you. I've seen mine twice a week for years now. I don't believe I would be here without him.

Were you recently diagnosed with ET as well? What is your platelet count now?

I have had good pain relief from a local chiropractor who provided gentle exercises and massage for my severe scoliosis.

That said, I would not turn to a chiropractor for treatment of my ET or cardiac condition.

Dr Eric Berg is a chiropractor who sells supplements on YouTube and his Website. He offers info to people without evaluating their specific situation or being in any way responsible for what they do with his info.

How this is better than treatment that has been tested through rigorous scientific doubles blind tests and, in the case of HU, has a 50-year track record of safe use for most people, puzzles me.

Are people so frightened of the word "chemo" that they don't understand the huge difference between oral and mega doses of infused drugs?

I do take Vit D3 w/K2, but not for ET. You need to be tested first (simple blood prick) to find out your level. If you're near a Quest Lab they can do it there by your request, or your doc can order it (my insurance covers it once/year), and you can search online to get a kit mailed to your home. In an case, it's wise to share the results w/your doc who can advise you from there.

My reply was about nutrition, and Dr Berg online is a good place to start.
It's not a replacement for medical advise, and I'm not a doctor. Everyone walks their own path toward better overall health.

Best wishes 🙂
