Has anyone used a Patient Advocate service to help with insurance?

Wondering if anyone has used an advocate like Solace and felt it benefiting them?

@mamajite Not getting any response. I am thinking of using one because I'm having trouble finding doctors who take Unitedhealthcare at this point.

Maybe you have already done this… but have you tried calling your customer service number at United Healthcare and let them know you’re having trouble finding a doctor? I know my healthcare insurance has helped me when I wanted to switch doctors.

@nannybb I just want to respond that we (my spouse has lung cancer) had to switch from United Health care and he went to Humana, with much better help finding the oncology team he wanted. He had to wait for year end, but insurance in the US is a mess, and there might be another way? Good luck.

@tinambor Do you feel comfortable revealing what State you reside in? I have payed top $ for United (for 10 years) because a rare form of breast cancer runs in my family. It metastasizes quickly if not acted upon. My mother died of it, my grandmother had both breasts removed and lived much longer. I didn't want my son to get stuck with medical bills if I also got it. Having paid for the highest level of United Healthcare and I was told if I ever went off of it, I could not return. It has covered many operations with zero problems until this year. I live in Oregon and someone in here mentioned they switched to the insurance I believe you are speaking of. I am going to have to do something. My cancer journey is not over. Thank you for your reply. I appreciate it. 💕

@nannybb Yes, we also live in Oregon. I hope you can do it. He was allowed to change because he went from one medicare advantage plan (United Health) to another (Humana) during open enrollment. That did not require him to go through a review. Best of luck to you!

@tinambor So should I be worried about pre-existing problems if I switch insurances? I hope you and your husband are doing much better and your switching was beneficial. My GP was using specialists from Oregon Clinic. Was that your case too, or was OSHU not taking United? This is getting to be a BIG mess. I could just give up and go with work sponsored Kaiser....ah no.
