Adrenal insufficiency

Posted by @johnwburns, Jul 23, 2016

Many people seem to report having adrenal insufficiency but how they acquired it or how it was formerly diagnosed seems to vary. There is primary, otherwise known as Addison’s Disease, and secondary, which is linked to a number of causes, among them taking cortisol for other conditions, and some other conditions themselves which may affect the adrenals. Clearly, it can cause a range of symptoms and is a cause or mimicker of other conditions. I’d like to hear more accounts from people that experienced either primary or secondary and were eventually diagnosed.

This article was beyond my comprehension. If my ct scan reported normal adrenal glands does it mean I don’t have to worry about fatigue being caused by adrenal malfunction?

From what I can gather there are a number of tests that need to be ran to establish adrenal insufficiency. Your doctor will know about them. I don’t think that looking at them in a ct scan is enough to establish a diagnosis.

This is complicated too, but its meant to give an idea that diagnosing adrenal insufficiency requires testing.

CT Scan only shows the adrenal gland structurally normal. It does not
shows the function of the gland. You need blood tests to know more about
the hormone secretions of this gland.
Fatigue has multiple causes . Hope your MD can figure it out for you. April
