Actemra for RA
I started getting Actemra infusions a few years ago for RA. I took it in combination with Arava and it worked well. Then I got a tumor on my lung and it was attributed to Arava even though there was no hard proof. I tried Actemra with methotrexate but it has not been as effective, and evidently it does not work by itself.
The tumor was necrotic tissue. I would like to go back on the Arava/Actemra combo and my pulmonologist is fine with it. He said if I got another tumor they would do a biopsy but would not do anything about it if it were necrotic tissue again. My rheumatologist is opposed to the idea because of liver concerns.
The reason he recommended Actemra is because it is the biologic that is least likely to cause lung infections, which I am prone to. I had an earlier reaction to Humira and have not tried any of the other biologics.
Does anyone else take a biologic for RA, and if so which one, and how is it working?
