AAA Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm newly diagnosed

Posted by hilbeby @hilbeby, Dec 9, 2025

I believe my abdominal aortic aneurysm is connected to my heart, as I often receive treatment for my heart. My cardiologist informed me of a concern regarding my abdominal aortic after my most recent visit; this is all new to me. I found it strange that the person performing the last few ultrasounds was giving me a needle shot in the middle of the process.

I didn't explain why I had recently received a needle shot because I am aware that they are trained to inform the doctors of any concerns. Now fast-forward to the third ultrasound visit, when the ultrasound was performed by a different individual. I remarked, "I am glad you didn't give me a needle midway through," even though she didn't give me a needle shot this time. Let's see what the doctor wants to do, was her only response.

I was essentially taken by surprise when my cardiologist brought it up to me this time. After the visit, when I got home and looked online, I believe I discovered or learned more about it. As is typically the case, he did not give me any documents. My CT scan is now planned for tomorrow. I believe he told me it was 4.9 in size, but he wants a CT scan to be sure. I like to call a spade a spade, therefore even though I'm not a rude person, I'm worried about this. Even the EVAR procedure terrifies me because, in many situations, things are not completely fixed and are done to gain long-term patience (or repeat customers).

Along with the radiation from these CT scans, endoleaks or endflow will always be problematic. Who knows what other risks are present?

Yes, I should have noted that I am a male in my mid-50s (54). If mentioning that is important.

I have a bicuspid valve and atrial fibrillation, or aFib. I have never smoked in my life, and since being diagnosed with aFib, I have dropped a significant amount of weight. (dropping 100lbs, from 260 to 160lbs). I've only gone out three times since 2020 to eat, and the majority of my meals are prepared at home.
