New study ranks Alzheimer's as third leading cause of death, after heart disease and cancer

A new study says Alzheimer's disease likely plays a larger role in the death of elderly Americans than is likely being reported. The new study published in the American Academy of Neurology journal suggests that the current reporting system for cause of death is underestimating the impact and reach of Alzheimer's as a cause of death.
