24y/o with continual pain, feeling anxious and lost joy
im really new to this whole anxiety thing, like im just starting to think maybe its actually is... and i need your guys experiences. so almost 4-5 months ago i woke up one morning in pain, basically neck shoulders, around clavicle, upper back till my half upper arms, 24/7, with headaches too. now its a bit better but its still there the everyday headaches, the pain the burning sensation. i got an mri but nothing major. anyway very recently like a week ago i feel sometimes kinda similar in my pelvic area and im REALLY lost. Now i do have big distrust in the medical system, from own experience especially... im not gonna bore you with the story 😅 BUT what is happening?? is anyone experiencing that and for months!! And all out of a sudden? ive been in this loop for a while and i stopped my studies cause of it. Im getting very dangerous thoughts and i dont recognize my self anymore, and each day that passes by where i feel this pain (before constant nausea) i lose the joy for life. im awear its not something life threatening, but damn the quality of my life went downhill. I was very joyful and spontaneous to going out, hell travelling outside the country, studying in uni, and now im at home, in eversay discomfort pain, nausea, .., crying.

I don’t usually comment on how someone “feels” since that’s very individual, very specific to who is posting…BUT having “dangerous” feelings IS life-threatening, not to be ignored or dismissed, and certainly affects your life directly, and likely others as well. Don’t act on “dangerous” feelings. Reach out for help, advice, to non-judgmental people, friends, relatives, neighbors, suicide prevention sources even if your “dangerous feelings” don’t involve hurting yourself. Mayo Connects group discussion leaders can help you find what you need. Please don’t hesitate to help yourself.

8 Reactions@velvinyl - I think you will find some of these resources helpful, especially those on mental health crisis help https://connect.mayoclinic.org/blog/about-connect/tab/crisis-resources/
If you can catch whatever is building in you early and address it, that would be great.

My parents are very supportive, when i came back home cause i wasnt feeling well, they welcomed me with open arms and even booked an appointment with a psychologist, i went a couple of times and it did absolutely nothing. So i quit it and now im thinking again of reaching out to someone else. But im not the type of person to put their life on hold, i was always responsible, i lead a life abroad since i was 19 years old. But they expect that by me returning and having almost 1.5 years off that its time to be back on my feet and resume my studies. But i feel like i cant seem to get out of it, and it just gets deeper, thats basically why i feel not resourceful. I never felt that in my life, since i always felt like i can do everything i set my mind to. So it really is a rollercoaster with this physical mental feelings.

6 Reactions@velvinyl I understand about that rollercoaster, believe me. I’ve been on/off it for many years(am 78, started when I was 4) I sure don’t want that lengthy outcome for you! I’m glad your parents are supportive. But I would suggest adding more support…maybe some not so closely related to you, just to get a wider perspective. It’s terrible to feel a psych is not effective. But if you can, try someone else in a similar position. Don’t expect a good outcome on your first try…or many tries. It’s an arduous process. You seem to have the wherewithal to undertake the attempt! It’s exhausting, chaotic , frustrating and never ending. You have all my best wishes and I think others in this group would join me in that.

3 ReactionsJust curious to ask if you have had a recent fal or tripped over something. The reason why i ask you that is i went through something similar about 8 yrs ago. I fell off of a step stool only 1 step up,so not very far and i starting having massive headaches that nothing really helped. I made an appt. with a neurologist and had an mri done before meeting with him. Then I just so happened told a friend about what happened to me and when I was going through and she suggested I see a chiropractor. I ended up and I went to the chiropractor and he basically fixed me because he said my vertebrates or out at the top of my neck from the fall so my headaches were gone after that and I felt better just like that. So you might want to give that a shot but again I'm not a doctor but that worked for me. Good luck to you and God bless

3 ReactionsDear One,
I do not trust the broken medical system either. I was put on three very powerful sedating drugs without informed consent and now I am experience very, very difficult withdrawal pain. I know this is not directly related to your circumstances, but I went to 17 different practitioners and they only gave way too fast tapering plans or none at all. I spent a of time researching on ai, which is sometimes not reliable, but is a helpful place to start. I also began praying for answers and came up with a much safer plan than any doctor. I truly believe we can come up with the answers if we listen carefully to ourselves. I am doing this under a doctor's supervision, but it is patient led. My life, too, is seriously compromised due to a way more sensitive body system, but I very strongly think I will heal. It will just take time.
I wish you the the best on your journey. There is always hope. Please do not give up. You have what it takes be because you reached out. You can do it!!!

7 ReactionsSometimes anxiety, depression, complex trauma can cause physical symptoms. As you have described what sounds like you are in and out of a hopeless state of mind, I suggest finding a therapist. I am not suggesting a psychiatrist. A therapist for therapy. I have seen mine for several years. Their approach is a lot different than psychologists and psychiatrists. Find a LCSW. I really recommend this after you have ruled out physical issues. It sounds like you have explored physiological issues. A therapist can not prescribe medication, but if the two of you decide that is something you want to explore for anxiety symptoms, they can help you get that referral. If you have access to YouTube, try a quiet meditation video. Are you sleeping okay? Eating? Is there a specific time of day when you feel this way or is it all the time? I just graduated with my Master of Science in Social Work with a GCP in Trauma. I will answer any questions you might have. Also, if you are thinking of harming yourself, I do recommend you call 988. I hope the best for you.

5 ReactionsI'm suffering from depression with anxiety. If I sit and think about it the load gets heavier. So, if I go to my coffee "club" at McD's in the morning the discussions vary from playing Santa Claus to the portraits we paint of others in the group . we laugh and sometimes cry. But we are always "WE" a group made up of every personality you can imagine. I completely forget my burden and join the crowd.

2 ReactionsConstant and chronic pain can cause some pretty significant depression. I am sorry you have lost faith in the medical system. But like every other profession, some physicians are good and some are bad. Doctors are so limited in the time they spend due to the constraints of the corporations that own and control the clinics and hospitals. Not to mention government regulations! Do as much research as you can on your own. Go to each appointment prepared with a written/typed list of your concerns. God Bless You!
