How to manage having Covid and MAC?

Posted by reneemc @reneemc, Dec 21, 2023

Home health care came out tonight and I tested positive for Covid. Prescribed antivirals and a round of Prednisone. Anyone used the drugs with othe MAC antibiotics? Is it safe?
My lungs feel heavy and experiencing new chest pains.

I had Covid over Christmas last year. I took Paxlovid for five days and had intestinal problems on day 3 but took the whole dose. My Covid was like a bad head cold. It never went to my lungs. Unfortunately with Paxlovid, it is not uncommon to have a rebound case of Covid. My pulmonologist warned me that could happen. At day 9, when I tested for Covid, I was almost over it. A barely there pink line. On day 10 it came back and I went through it again but the symptoms were about 50% of what they were the first time. It took me 18 total days to test negative.
Wishing you a speedy recovery and hope it does not settle in your lungs.

I'm currently under fungal treatment and got covid for first time in Oct. Paxlovid did not contain it so on to the ER for 3 days of remdesivir, AZ, cefTRIAXone, dexamethasone. I still have sinus and balance issues some 10weeks later, but covid did not cause any further damage to the lungs thank God.

My pulmonary doc told me (if he is away or unavailable) to take Azithromycin pack (Zpack 5 days) and 40 mg prednisone for 10 days.

I have Bronchiectasis,MAC .But 2days ago I got Covid . My pulmonologist told me that I should stop taking rifampin and clarithromycin while I am taking paxlovid.
Do any people here have similar experience? Thanks for your answer.

How are your vital signs? Paxlovid had no effect on me as my spo2 dropped to 84% and temp to 102.8 so I went to the ER for remdesivir, az, cefTRIAXone, dexAMETHasone and lactate all by IV.

For those who posted getting COVID recently: How and where do you think you picked it up? Were you being super careful and still got it?? Thanks for letting us know!

I got COVID from my husband that went to a wedding in Ohio. I didn’t go because I was afraid it would be a super spreading event. He masked at the airport and on the plane. The first night he was home he slept in a separate bedroom, the next night he told me he had no symptoms and was fine, two days later (and on Thanksgiving) he came down with symptoms. He wore a mask when he was in the house after that and slept in a separate room again. Two days later I had a sore throat that lasted a week, not really sick and didn’t test positive until 5 days later. I had been vaccinated for COVID and I feel like that kept me from getting real sick. Last year, as careful as I was in public and on airplanes, I got it from family in my own home. I feel like I lost three years of hiding and missed out on lots of fun things being afraid of people and germs. My daughter is a teacher and I have grandchildren so if I want to see family I take the risk of picking up things. Life is short so my thinking now is be cautious, mask when necessary and enjoy what you can. I hope you all stay well!

It is difficult to always have to make a risk assessment. Freedom is lost. I wait for summer when I can socialize outside with less risk. But even then...I caught my second Covid sitting next to my brother in an outdoor restaurant.

My vital signs are normal ,no fever,,BP131/78, Heart rate 80, no short of breath. I able to walk 20-30 minutes a time without difficulty. Things are bothering me are my blood sugar levels out of control, appetite goes down, lost some weight. If I forced myself to eat more then I will feel stomach very uncomfortable, guess the stomach is inflamed although (cause no appetite)
This my third day after testing Covid positive. Hope after Covid healed these problems will get better。
