Tonsil Stones

Posted by cherriann @cherriann, Dec 2, 2023

I get tonsil stones occasionally and it can take quite awhile before they dislodge. I use to be able to visually see and feel them and would use a cotton swab to remove it, but now I more often feel them, but they're located far enough back where I am unable to see them. Anyone have similar issue and do you know of a way to dislodge them when they are out of sight?

I do get these occasionally. Mine are smaller and gargling with warm salt water usually dislodges them.

Not seeing them suggests you can’t physically get at them. A REGULAR regimen of gargling vigorously with warm salt water is helpful. Morning and evening? That has been my experience.

Hi to all. Just sharing helpful info given to me that hopefully can help/eliminate yours too. Sounds so simple but makes sense what we put in our mouth can accumulate in tonsils. Separate tongue scraper easy to use when brush teeth and helps further eliminate this excess. Healing to all🌈

I've also recently heard a theory that some of the things we eat (excessive sugar or carbs) can encourage this buildup.

Many thanks to everyone for tips! I'd heard of gargling with warm salt water for sore throats, but never for tonsil stones, so will definitely be giving this a try.....thank you again.

Instead of stones that can be dislodged, I have cysts on both tonsils. Sometimes they like to make their presence known in an irritating manner. Usually they take turns in doing this. The cysts were identified as a side benefit to CT scans performed for other reasons.

Stones can appear because of bad mouth hygiene and if you have allergies.
