Migraines

Posted by ladyjane85 @ladyjane85, Apr 26, 2016

For those of you with frequent migraines, not I, I just saw a good discussion and solution today on the TV program "The Doctors" April 26th if one has access to bring up the program on demand. There was a 15 year old with daily migraines who had 4 leads and a battery pack put into neck front and back and now has a good life. @ladyjane85

My migraines started when I was 34 (I am now 76) They were bad for about 31 years. I have taken cafergot, butalbital, fioricet, to mention a few. When I was 65 I hurt my neck and for 6 months had physical therapy and other treatments prescribed by my neurologist, they helped to a certain point.
Then I decided to try acupuncture, it started to work. I mention the doctor my problem with bad migraines and he added more needles to treat that. To make the story short it took about 7 months to completely eliminate both pains. I have been migraine free since 2006. I have heard that acupuncture doesn't work for everybody but I think it is worth it to try, plus no side effect at all. I also have general arthritis, back and hip problems and acupuncture has been my savior because the only medication I can tolerate is Tylenol. Right now I have plantar fasciitis and I am treating it the same way.

Daughter, mid 40's, has had chronic headaches since teen years. Pain doctor will no longer prescribe Indocin and Imitrex, which she has taken for years, possibly because she takes too often. Daughter is terrified of having migraines with no pain relief, having to miss work, etc. She took morphine which helped a lot for a short time, botox did not help. Also recently had pain in legs and feet diagnosed as fibromyalgia, takes hydrocodone which helps. She looks to meds to give relief. Any thoughts from others with similar situation or conditions? The fear of pain causes a lot of anxiety for her and thereby for family.

I have been dx with migraines since 2000. Have taken every med out there et none have worked. I experience mostly cluster which are very painful. I tried the daith piercings. They say do them on the side you have your h/a I did 1st one on opposite d/t they say do not sleep on them. Takes 6-9 months to heal. Had no prob. with 1st one slept on it et everything. So did the other side which experience them mostly on. Minute ear pierced my nostril even opened up instantly which is always plugged. Have only had very dull h/a which ex-migraine takes away if I need something!:)

@teddy69 I have had Migraines since the age of 13 (now 77). Yes, Chloral Hydrate, Nembutal, Seconal, Fiornal and Imitrix. One thing I learned was to remove noise, excitement and depression as triggers that could set off Migraines. Another, was after my Neurologist could find no cause for a stabbing feeling with Migraine intensity---I took my blood pressure the next times this happened and found it to be very high. Took half dosage from previous year Losartan--pain went away, as did headache.

It showed me that there was a correlation between blood pressure control and headaches. Controlling the triggers noted first, "it's over 4 1/2 years now with no migraines."

Good luck.

Hi everyone. I haven't checked in for a few months. Ive been fighting depression all summer. I had nerves blocked in L3-L6 in may. It seemed like it was helping for a while, but now im back to daily migraines. It is almost more then i can handle... they say that they are caused by my brain damage??? And the migranes that i had for 40some years is what caused the brain damage???? REALLY that is a hard pill yo swallow! I only had 8 good days last month. It is crazy.. i just had 4 days without migraines and woke up this morning and it was back!!! You know if i was a horse they would put me down! I dont know how much longer i can suffer like this. Any ideas????

Hi @sharonmay7, welcome back to Connect! I moved your's and @dmkmom04's post to this thread so that you can better reconnect with the community. You may have noticed that @dmkmom04 asked you about the Zecuity patch - in case you are unfamiliar with what this is, here is some information on it: http://www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supplements/sumatriptan-transdermal-route/proper-use/drg-20060804

I noticed that you wrote in another thread in the past that the doctor's said having the nerves burned off meant to treat other pain but wasn't meant to help with migraines, but luckily it did. Maybe if you revisit the doctor they will have newer recommendations now that some time has passed and you found a little bit of temporary relief after having the nerves burned away. Here are some treatment options I found in case you're looking to explore them further: http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/migraine-headache/diagnosis-treatment/treatment/txc-20202474

Have you had any follow up visits with the doctor recently?
