Endometrial tumour: Cyst (benign) or Cancer?

Posted by kenlyn @kenlyn, May 6, 2023

Hi, I'm new to this, age 57 from UK.
I had phone consultation over phone (following a US scan on ovaries) Dr said I have a 5cm endometrial tumour on my ovary !!
When I googled it, it said cancer. Your thoughts would be appreciated please ??
I have long health history but don't want to bore anyone.

From my understanding, tumors can be cancerous or noncancerous.

The consultant said I had 3 options:-
1) surgery
2) hormone therapy
3) surveillance
I opted for surveillance as I've had a lot of previous surgery & she said it would be extremely high risk.
Due to having an inherited condition called FAP, I'm adviced to stay clear of hormone therapy, so the decision is decided really !!

What was your antigen 125 score?

Hi @kenlyn, I might press for more information before making a final decision. Questions I would ask, include:
1. Familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) is an inherited disorder most often associated with colorectal cancer. Is this tumour related to FAP?
2. Is the tumour cancerous or benign?
3. Is it fast growing?
4. What are the pros and cons of each treatment option?
5. Why is hormonal therapy not recommended for people with FAP?

I'm so relieved but angry at the same time. My letter finally came & it says cyst not tumour & the size is mm NOT cm, so I'm not so worried now, but angry that I've had a few anxious weeks over it all. Thank u for your message 🤗

That's good news. What is the next step? Will the cyst be removed?

I have my next form through for CA125blood markers & will be scanned again around August, as I opted for surveillance, I cant have surgery as consultant said it was extremely high risk as I have desmoid tumours & due to FAP, I cant have hormone therapy.
