Not diagnosed yet, worried about Inflammatory Breast Cancer

Posted by mdjohnson77 @mdjohnson77, May 6, 2023

I have not been diagnosed with anything. My left breast has been itching and hurting for a couple of months. Now the pain is more intense and I am worried. I had a very red rash but it is gone now. The soonest the imaging clinic could get me in is the end of this May. I am worried about IBC but I don't have orange peel….my breast hurts and feels heavy. It doesn't look swollen. I just don't know what to do…my gut says something is wrong. I don't feel any lumps. I am 52 years old and very overweight.

I understand how worried you must be having to wait so long for a mammogram.
Have you seen a doctor about your breast? Primary Care, GYN or Breast Surgeon?
If not- contact someone at once. A physician should be able to get a mammogram/ ultrasound much sooner.

I agree with @astaingegerdm I would try to get an appointment with anyone I could and get this checked out. If you have a gyno doctor, I would start there, but pcp, or will do as well.

My general practitioner ordered the mammogram after I told her my symptoms. I went to the appointment and they told she ordered a regular mammogram and I needed a diagnostic mammogram with ultrasound. I contacted my doctors office and they sent the new order. Now I have to wait till the 30th.

I'm confused because you would think a diagnostic mammogram would take priority.

Sadly this exact thing happened to me when I went for mine in 2004. The only question on the paper was do you have a lump now? When I circled yes, they said get dressed we can’t do this today. WHAT?
Thankfully my surgeon carried a little clout in this tiny town at that time and called and got me in a few days later.
I learned that of course these decisions have nothing to do with care, they come from the billing department.
The fee for a diagnostic mammogram is significantly higher so they have to make sure they get it coded correctly from the gate.
I am sorry you have to wait, did you ask to get on the cancellation list?

I understand fully how you’re feeling. I have a reddish/purplish rash on my breast. I’m having it biopsied next week. From my research, it’s either inflammatory breast cancer or an autoimmune disease. My mother had breast cancer twice and my aunt died of it at 46. They both had lumps and ibc is far worse. I am literally petrified.
