You are ok most people between 50 and 60. Drink 64 ounce water every day. I was 52 for while.

So your kidneys are ok.

I've had stage 3 chronic kidney disease since 2009 following my chemotherapy, which did my kidneys into this stage. Seeing my oncologist every 6 months, then 3 months when they draw blood "they can and do often monitor the GFR ratio. That tells the rate at which your kidneys are operating. If you seek more precise information, I would see a Nephrologist (kidney doctor).

You need to check creatinine level too.

REPLY

Yes. They check that with a CBC, along with white, red cells, BUN, platelets, HCT, etc.

So frustrating. I would like to offer alittle insight if you don't mind. I have secondary hyperaldosteronism, hypokolemia, partial complex seizures, sleep apnia. I take 4 different hypertension medication along with an antiepileptic medication GFR use to be in the 80's. I now run 52 what my Mayo Clinic doctor focuses on is the BUN & creatinine (it tells you how its getting rid of waste which is the function) more so than the GFR because it's lower when on medication that are processed through the kidneys and not the live. It's not the same for everybody. We are slowly taking away meds and the GFR is increasing. You always have the choice to get a secong opinion or change docs all together. Do what you feel is right for you. We get one body, one life. It's up to you how it's treated. Praying you find peace in whatever decision you make!:-) Good luck!
