Want to discuss prolapse bladder or any kind of prolapse

Posted by Tanglefoot @tanglefoot, Aug 2, 2015

I am looking to discuss prolapse bladder or any kind of prolapse that other ladies have experienced as well. I would also like to comment on incontinence as well. There is a lot to talk about when it comes to prolapse bladder etc and it seems to be a silent epidemic among women. If there are others out there like me, lets talk about it and I have some solutions. I am surviving prolapse bladder without surgery and I have been living with it for over ten years. I wear a support garment that is light and easy weight and fits right under my existing underwear. Don't know what you are doing or wearing, but I would like to hear from you. Thanks.

Hi Pizon and I wish I could be of help. I was not aware of pelvic floor spasms and they do not sound like something I would wish to experience. I will ask my physiotherapist for some info about them when I see her at the end of August. I have learned a lot from my therapist. I never knew that a person should never empty their bladder 'just because' - she says that that habit will train your bladder to want to be emptied more often than necessary and ultimately cause it to have a decreased capacity. I always would go to the BR before leaving home 'just in case'. Today I did not do that. I drove half an hour, golfed 9 holes, rode home while consuming a 581ml bottle of water and then emptied my bladder back at home. I don't think I could have done that 2 months ago before starting my pelvic floor exercises.and I had no full bladder discomfort at all. Wishing you the best.

I had told my doctor that I always have to wear a feminine pad to keep me dry. She told me to start doing some kegal exercises but unfortunately they are not doing any good. I had told this to my oldest sister and she said that I may have to have my bladder pulled up. But I was thinking maybe I'd buy Ben-wa balls. Maybe they would help. What is your input on these?

Colleen - I am sooo lost - could you please let me know how to put a new post in and since no one has posted since 2017 , if anyone is still going to be posting to this site. Thank you for any help. I did a post on the last page but did not know how to delete so i just did an edit. If you think there is a chance this forum is still active I will repost my prolapse question. Again, thank you for your help.

Hi, @sueblue, and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect.

If you would like to post to a discussion and don't want to reply to anyone in particular, click on "Last" right under the very first post (the one in the top blue-gray shaded area). Then scroll all the way down to the bottom of that "Last" page. You will see a box there that says, "Write your reply here." You can enter your comment or question there.

If you do want to reply to a particular comment in the discussion, click on the "Reply" button right at the bottom of their comment. Even better is to "tag" that member by putting their username (@___) in your reply so they know for sure you are responding to them. If you look around at discussions on Mayo Clinic Connect, you will note that members tag one another.

You do have the option to edit your own posts within 30 minutes of when you posted them, if you would like.

As to your question about posting in a discussion where the last post was in 2017: it's still very reasonable that members who'd posted in 2017 will return and discuss your post.

What aspect of your prolapse are you finding most bothersome currently?

@lisalucier, - Thank you so much for the reply. I just could not quite figure it out - it's hell to get old!
I put explanation first and then question:
I have a mucosal rectal prolapse with fecal incontinence. Started with severe long undiagnosed hyperthyroidism (Graves disease), had my thyroid destroyed with radioactive iodine (after I had it endo told me she gave me double the dose to make sure the thyroud was dead) and then went completely out of hand hypo. It was so bad it affected my digestive tract so I basically I had no gut motility and terrible constipation. Then came the prolapse. Colorectal surgeon said still had sphincter tone and go to pelvic PT. At that time did not have the leakage til a couple of days later. PT therapist had to do a vaginal exam to "test my sphincter tone for exercises" and I think I had leaked from the back door a bit and she must have pushed some anal leakage in my vagina because shortly after I started to have a vaginal discharge. I am post menopausal . It is not bad and no odor but yellowish in color, same as from rectum. Afraid to go to gyn as may be leaking and afraid more would be pushed up there. Also very atrophic (dried up) and I bleed from the speculum for a couple of days after a gyn visit.

OUESTION: How do I keep myself clean enough to go to the gyn??? And how do I keep from getting anal leakage on bleeding area at entrance of vagina after for a couple of days???

I tried 2x2 gauze pads which I use at nite to keep from running to front area but can't use in underwear as it hurts the prolapse. I could never sit in the car to get there, let alone after. At nite I kinda put it in the area between the rectum and vagina to catch anything so it is not directly on the prolapse. I think it dries it out and that is why it bothers me so much if touching it. It also gets irritated from wiping and washing "my insides" as I dont always know when it is in or out.I dont know if I will ever be OK again as I lost a lot of weight and muscle mass. Was only 112 lbs to start and trying desperately to gain some weight back. Endo keeps upping my thyroid hormone replacement but I am still very hypo

I'm new to talking with other people about my problems. Three years ago I had surgery for what my doc said was "the trifecta" uterine, bladder and rectal prolapse. He said I needed surgery and since I had had breast cancer, he suggested a hysterectomy too. I went along with it...He's the doctor, right? Since then, sex is so painful I don't have it and I went from a vibrant person to just not feeling great. I cant take hormone replacement because of my history with breast cancer, so after a second opinion about my sexual disfunction, the doc suggested the Mona Lisa lazer therapy, which I did with little results. Now.I'm prolapsing again and the first doc wants to do surgery again. What the heck? I don't want to live with prolapse..I have a very physical life style. Anybody have anything for me?

If you had a hysterectomy, what is left to prolapse- sorry if this is a dumb question, but new to all this

@pizon, So sorry you have had to endure multiple surgeries following your prolapse repair. I have not had this same problem but will tell you some things my urogynecologist who performed my surgery did tell me. I was very hesitant about having my prolapse repair done with mesh. He highly recommended it because of the condition of my ligaments (they were extremely stretched out and he did not believe just repairing the ligaments holding my bladder would last long-term). I also have another hernia that I have had for many years and has not caused me problems so it has never been fixed. The urogynecologist asked me if I had any hernias because he said he often sees people with very stretched out ligaments holding their bladder having other hernias as well. He said some people's tissue is just more prone to hernias and the prolapse is just a very specialized type of hernia. He had no reason to know that I had the other hernia and I would not have known myself had it not been found on a CT scan looking at something else (just by accident). So I went ahead and had the bladder prolapse repair done with mesh and I am so glad I did because after 6 months I have no issues at all. I had a stage 4 prolapse which was huge and often would bleed if I did much activity at all (or if I coughed or sneezed). So I am thinking that you may be like me and sort of prone to hernia due to the nature of your tissue. My regular gynecologist was planning to do my prolapse surgery without mesh but after consulting 2 urogynecologists who do prolapse surgeries all the time, I decided to go for the mesh repair. If you still feel like you are sitting on a ball then something is not right and I think your prolapse may have come back. I am no doctor but my urogynecologist told me that the prolapse coming back was almost a certainty if he did not use the mesh since I have other hernias and am apparently prone to them. I sure hope you get it figured out but I would encourage seeking the advice of another specialist in uterine prolapse. If you are hesitant about the mesh I certainly do understand as I was adamant I did not want it. But it is not the same mesh used by doctors a while back and the type you see in the lawyer commercials that frankly scared me to death. I have had absolutely no problem with the mesh and am glad I went ahead and got it done. Best to you.
