SIBO and hopeful to be working with doctors at Mayo Clinic

Posted by azj @azj, Apr 16, 2023

I have an appointment with Dr. Szarka soon, which I am feeling very hopeful about, and am wondering if anyone within the group has seen him before and can share their experiences. I am working with SIBO and am hopeful that he will be able to help me sort out why I am not able to cure it.
Thank you in advance for your kind response.

OK - So has your gastro cod recommended a anti-biotic regimen to trying to rid you of what may be 'leaky gut', or a bacterial infection that decreases stomach motility, whereby food sites longer before passing from the stomach to the duodenum & on thru the upper colon.
I ask all this because, after having tried everything (ALL forms of western, holistic, naturopathic, medicine & treatment), this is what I've tested positive for with the SIBO test. I'll now talk with my Kaiser gastro doc AND my naturopathic doc to see if I want to try an herbal approach OR antibiotic.

My doctor ordered at my request - I got it through TrioSmart, which is a result of Dr. Pimentel's work at Cedars-Sinai. I've now had it 3 times. You can order it on your own and there is a set-price.

Odd - since it's such a common test to check for the presence of gut bacteria. Research has shown that SIBO is a major cause of intestinal permeability ('leaky gut'), a condition where partially digested food is absorbed thru the small intestine (closest to stomach) lining where the can cause an immune reaction - possibly also causing bacterial to be absorbed - major trigger of inflammation. The bacteria, in turn, cause the small intestine's motility to slow down, causing further fermentation.

Hello..no one was willing to order the SIBO test and their answer was:"
I already know you have Ulcerative colitis..I am not going to go look for anything else.." The test was never ordered, instead they just wanted to give me drugs where the side effects just made my condition much worse, and the last one was Entyvio, which one dose with the drug and the set up fee is about $ 12,000 with a lot of possible side effects. I said no way. My inflammation lab results was off the scale, I am also a Covid long hauler. Thanks so much for your reply. Kitty2

I was just at Mayo in Phoenix for CDIFF infection, and have apt with Gastro in a few weeks there, but I tried to tell the other doctor's I may have SIBO as well, but that seems a test maybe Mayo does not do? Is it best to order on your own as well, and show them the results, or Mayo does not recognize SIBO testing?

Thanks for any information.
