Peeling lips

Posted by dancing1 @dancing1, Feb 27, 2023

Have seen three dermatologists and two great dentists this year. Last few months peeling of lips is one of my main concerns. Still having issues no matter what I try!

Just wondering if you have a sore tongue or parts of the mouth? I also have peeling lips and it may be caused by a fungal infection. I used a mouthwash made up of nystain, Benadryl and a cortisteroid. Since then my peeling lips have improved considerably.

Yes I do have a sore sometimes tongue and sometimes burning mouth and it seems like inside be checks are swollen and dentist said I might be bitting then when the are swollen without even knowing it. The peeling lips come and go everyday. I’m pleased when they do not hurt or burn or just be irritating but it doesn’t last at all comes right back. I did you something on corners of my mouth or ten days of treatment but the infection could be back on corners of my mouth. My nutritionist recommended I see my regular doctor he should be able to check to see. Very frustrating.

Peeling lip is very common complaint and a common finding in any dental office. There are bunch of simple reasons it could be caused so to get to the root of the cause process of elemination is a simple attempt to resolve the problem . If your primary care Dentist could not resolve it then that doctor should referr you to a Speciallist Dentist called ' Oral medicine specialist ' . Most dental school has department of Oral medicine and they are best trained to address your lip peeling problem.

Dancing, I am not a doctor but it sounds like you might have a condition called oral thrush. This is usually when the normal organisms in a persons mouth increase too much. Often this is because the body’s immune system weakens and can’t balance the various organisms in the mouth. Speak to your Dr. and ask about a medicated mouthwash and if it would be the right treatment for you.

Thank you for your response. I really appreciate it. She said the Mayo
Clinic doctor she thought I might have some and the dentist that saw me to
have teeth cleaning also said that. I had used the treatment I need to
have that checked again. Thank you so very much.

I can’t say my lips peel but recently I had an isolated episode of cracking and splitting of the lips. Other than the tar stains from cigerette smoking there’s no other symptoms. It was quite concerning but has recently went away.
Good luck and prayers for you. Hoping and praying you find a treatment soon.

Can you please tell me what mouth wash that was? Or did you mix it? Thank you so glad your lips are better.

It was mixed at the pharmacy and given to me as a prescription from the doctor. It contains nystatin, a steroid like cortisone, and something to sooth the mouth. I think the active ingredient is the nystatin because it treats fungal infections. In some pharmacies it’s called Magic Mouth.

Thank you very much they did give me something like that and I was allergic to one of those and they stopped it Caused severe burning and pooling of saliva behind my lips and in front of my teeth. More saliva than I’ve had for at least a couple of years. Just pooling there ! That’s when they told me to use medical Vaseline. Very frustrating I’m been allergic to many drugs. Thank you again!
