Coughing/sneezing, aggravating back pain

Posted by dishpain @dishpain, Jan 6, 2023

I had the unfortunate happen this year that has not happened in many years. With all the respiratory stuff going around, I was diagnosed with bronchitis and sinusitis simultaneously . Of course, they tested me for Covid, flu, RSV, and rhinovirus. All were negative. But my discussion is that the coughing and sneezing were very violent and kept me from sleeping & caused so much pain. I could not even use my CPAP because it would put me into a coughing fit. I seem to be at the end of it but it has kept me out of work for a week and a half and completely wiped me out. For those who don’t know I have many issues in my back including dish, disease, stenosis, and bulging disc. Also after radio frequency ablation on the left side of T5-T7 , that area has become very painful. But every time I coughed or sneezed, it was like somebody was stabbing me in the back. Plus being out of work and not moving around as much aggravated things as well. This really took a lot out of me. I hope any of you out there who have back/spine pain, stay well, and don’t have to go through something like this. A happy healthy new year to you all!

I too have bulging disc and anytime I have much coughing or sneezing, I feel like I’m being stabbed. I think the discs are pushing in the dural lining and nerves causing the pain.
I had to have a discectomy(at Mayo) at T-4 because my spur grew into a spicule and punctured my dural lining. Now T-5 is beginning to push on the lining. I feel like a time bomb getting ready to explode. Coughing and sneezing scare me because I’m afraid I’m going to have another blow out!
I don’t have a good answer for you but just sharing my experience.
