Vibration

Has anyone had any success using a stand on vibration machine for strengthening bones and improving balance?

I have a seat pad that I put in my chair. When I first had a Burst Compression Lumbar I Fracture a year ago, I would turn the vibration and heat on, but after about a year; the vibration made my back really sore so I was afraid to use it. Also, I have been going to the "Y" Therapy Pool only to help strengthen my core and legs. It was uncomfortable to get in front of the jets in the part of the pool that had them. It actually hurts me.

I would also be interested in results from LIV machine..After listening to Sara Meeks, seems like a good thing if consistent. The expense is a drawback, but my bones come first. Just trying to make vest decision.
Looking forward to information

Hi @jamuda77, I was using an Eilison Bolt, whole body vibration plate exerciser for 9 months, two 15 minute bone building programs a day. After listening to Margaret Martin's podcast on the dangers of high intensity vibration exercisers I stopped using it. In the meantime, I started doing Dr. Loren Fishman's 12 Poses vs. Osteoporosis, which has been studied and improves bone density. You can Google to find it.

Hi @jameswilliam I am sorry about your elbow fracture. I'm not a doctor of medicine or a physical therapist so I can't answer your question. The best thing would be to ask your physician. Were you given a referral to physical therapy? Targeted exercises would probably help you build strength and regain function of your arm.

Glad you gave up the high intensity vibration..The low intensity Vibrations unit is recommended..Sara Meeks PT (osteoporosis expert for 30+ years) had had incredible results with it…I would love to try, but the $$! Sara has therapy exercises on YouTube are well documented, easy and so helpful. She is brilliant.
I do one of her exercises videos daily… Also,I started the Loren Fishman 12 Yoga poses daily too! Aren’t they impressive? So helpful and feels great.
I also add free weights at home every other day..and daily pushups, squats and toe raises..all with weights. And long walks every day..every other day with weighted vest of 10lbs.
After months of this I feel so darn good.. incredible energy. Who would think a diagnosis would change my life in many ways. Closest gym is almost an hour from me, but I’m considering it after New Year, because of the studies on weightlifting and bone health.
Another great bunch of exercises I added in are balance ones.. to help prevent trips snd falls. Very important to add these.

Let’s hope we keep getting stronger and take control!

Hi @barbakp, Yes the Marodyne LIV low intensity vibration exerciser is certainly pricey. I gave my 10 lb weighted vest away, as on Bob and Brad's podcast with Sara Meeks, she warned it could cause compression fractures, so be careful. I was a strong exerciser before an autoimmune disorder laid me low for a couple of years. I've recovered, but I don't have the energy I used to. I still try to do what I can, Dr. Fishman's yoga every day, walks and other exercises. Carol Michaels also has some good workouts with weights for oseteoporosis. Take care!

Thanks.. I’ll check out those exercises too.
The weighted vest was a slow process.. started with 1 lb and going up sloooowly! Now I’m at 10, but I skip vest every other day. I don’t want to overdo or to cause issues! Just build up slowly. I use it for push-ups and squats etc too..sometimes!
I’m sorry to hear about your issues with auto immune issues.. but the fact that you are TRYING is a testament to you!! Anything we go is better than nothing and adding healthy choices.
I wish you strength and blessings

The Marodyne LIV plate is not in my budget. I hope there is a more affordable LIV option. I respect Meeks & Martin, and support/prefer evidence-based strategies. However, there are other LIV plates advertised that sell for hundreds, not thousands. Anyone know if any other LIV plates have been deemed safe for osteoporosis?
