Seeks medical help if your cough does not stop. Don't take cough drops.,drink plenty of water. Use salt water (warm water) to gargle your throat. Don't eat 2 hours before sleep. Use humidifier. Good luck!

It's very hard to quit. It's your comfort zone. Find a reason to stop besides the scare of lung cancer. Get a hobby. Get support group. Let go your worry. Live for yourself. Try yoga. Surround yourself with non- smokers. No one can tell you to stop but yourself. Feel well.

Two suggestions for you. Use a nasal rinse...like Med --something (so sorry can't remember the name) that comes with a syringe... just follow the instructions. AND...take an antihistamine (like Benedryl) at bedtime. Between the two it should help. Tell you what will work with the smoking. Quit COLD TURKEY...you will most likely go through "hell" for 3 days...but by the 4th day it will be easier...also, coffee-caffiene and nicotine are interdependant on each other... quit both. Yes, I know, you think you're gonna die, but you won't! 🙂 I am speaking from experience... you CAN do it if you really WANT to... no one says its easy, but you CAN do it. Good luck!!
Seeing a dr if this doesn't work (re the cough) is really a GOOD idea!

Do you smoke? My advice is to have your vitamin D levels checked. If they're low, start supplementing with a high-quality supplement. Two new studies and one relatively new clinical review have established a link between low vitamin D and an increased risk of lung cancer in smokers. source: http://vitamind3blog.com/2013/03/vitamin-d-lung-disease-cance/

If you’re coughing so much that your chest hurts and you’re getting a bad night’s sleep, consider a cough suppressant such as dextromethorphan, found in Delsym, DexAlone, and Vicks Formula 44.When a person has a cough that is thick with phlegm, Mosnaim says it helps to take a cough expectorant such as guaifenesin, found in Humibid, Mucinex, Robitussin Chest Congestion, and Tussin. Expectorants help to thin out the mucus so one can more easily cough it up, Coughs caused by the common cold usually go away in a few weeks. Chronic, persistent coughs may be caused by underlying medical problem such as allergies, asthma, or acid reflux -- or by the medications you take. To lose those coughs you need to treat the underlying problem.Talk to your doctor if your cough lasts longer than two to four weeks, or if you are coughing up blood, or if you’re having other symptoms such as weight loss, chills, or fatigue.

Hello little girl:
sweet name! I had a chocking cough and diagnosis of Asthma. I urge you to seek a second opinion from doctors who are familiar with lung diseases.
This is my short story: After 2 years of visiting local doctors, who did not understand the risk of lung cancer in never smokers and athletic women I finally found answers from a second opinion at Mayo Clinic. My professional team of doctors at Mayo Clinic "listened and responded" to my chronic cough, shoulder pain and night sweats. They put it all together and I got back my quality of life. Lung cancer was shockingly diagnosed. But early detection and surgery 'saved my life'. I know this winter has been brutal with colds and coughs...I'm finally recovering myself. But, you know your body best. Don't let anyone tell you "Your cough is not real, or its psychological...mine wasn't! I understand how frustrating is can be when people and medical teams do not know about a lung disease, too often diagnosed at a late stage. So get that second opinion and let's stay connected.

All my best,
Linda
