My wife is suffering from schizophrenia, hearing voices, seeing things

Posted by shmoo @shmoo, Aug 29, 2012

I am currently located in Elizabeth, city North Carolina, my wife is suffering from schizophrenia, hearing voices, seeing things, delusional thoughts, and cognitive problems. She is on medication however nothing seems to work. I feel as though I don't know where to go to get her help. I am definitely open for suggestions

Hi shmoo sorry that you are having so many worries with your wife. Maybe see the dr to see if the medication is working or needs to be adjusted and see if he/she can't offer further advice for you. My niece had this condition and once the meds were adjusted everything started to settle down. Also maybe there maybe a support group in your area that maybe able to help you. Your in my thoughts Take care piglit

if you have been readjusting for this many years find another dr. not all can be helped with any disease, but you must continue to try. some medical schools and/or hospitals also have clinical trials for some diseases. you have access to the web. best of luck

Thanks and I really appreciate the advice and kind words. She has had different Dr.s some with some success but her body always figures it out, or they don't take their meds and re-lapse.. Support groups are almost non existent in this part of the country. Mental health is still kind of a closet illness around here (taboo) or (evil).

Hi Shmoo I have a very close friend who suffers from Schitzophrenia. The doctor recently changed his antipsychotic and has been doing GREAT! He was doing very poorly while he was taking the same pill for many, many years (it was not working anymore) He is now talking Latuda 40mg as well as 1500mg of Depakote and Seroquel @ night. He says since he started the Latuda he has seen a big improvement, and so have I. Can't hurt to inquire about it đŸ™‚ Good Luck

I would recommend you try to avoid ziprasidone (geodon), as this atypical antipsychotic, vs. all the others, has a much higher risk of longterm extra pyramidal side effects. Seroquel and olanzapine are both far better from a parkinsonian point of view, but have adverse weight and cholesterol effects Hope that's a help.
