High Hemoglobin , several other blood test #s high

Posted by debbiekoebcke54 @debbiekoebcke54, Aug 8, 2022

My NP did my physical this year. Found my Hemoglobin was high. 15.7 GM/dL Had been creeping up for several years.
Went to Hematologist, more blood work -
Revealed Also:

BUN Ser PI QN. 22 mg/dL
Ferritin Ser PI QN 145.1 ng/mL

Cannot get into Hematologist for at least 10 days. Just wondering what this could all mean. What questions I should ask Hematologist, should there be more testing, and what should be the biggest concern here.

Thank You.

I Recently found out my hemoglobin is 19.7.
My doctor put me on a alkaline diet and Said to come back in a month to run another test to compare.

Hi @debbiekoebcke54, I'm wondering what you learned at your appointment with the hematologist?

She was not too concerned, we were in the process of moving so I will find a new Dr and have that checked again in 3-6 months. I really do not know what to think. The hemoglobin number has been increasing over several years. Thanks for asking. My husband has been coming to Mayo so we are wondering if I should make a trip as well.

Debbie, it never hurts to inquire. If you want to ask questions about possibly getting an appointment at Mayo Clinic, you can self-refer. The process starts by filling out the online form to schedule a phone call with a coordinator who can answer your questions as well as get more info about you. Hi, I have polycythemia and chronic anemia. My ferritin always runs very low along with iron. Maybe check for anemia too.

Hello.
I'm new to this Polycythemia group and very confused. I was recently diagnosed, 11-2022. I also have Thalassemia minor. Does anyone know if this will be an issue because of low iron issues with treatments later on? The Thalassemia hasn't been a real issue but, iron is not something I was told that would be good for Polycythemia?
Thanks for any input or experiences you may have.
Kat
