The Power of Hope

Posted by Roxie43 @roxie43, Aug 11, 2012

There are times, circumstances, life's trials and tribulations that often cause one to lose hope. I know how it feels to feel so hopeless that nothing seems worth it anymore.. It is a horrible state of mind to be in! Then, something or someone comes along and renews that sense of meaning and having faith that this too shall pass. The past year has been very challenging, stressful, depressing and I felt so hopeless.
I am in a different place today and I owe it to my friends at Mayo, family, peers, wonderful doctors and my faith that was surely tested over and over.
How has hope positively impacted your life??
Wishing you all blessed times and renewed HOPE!

Hi All,
Thank you for responding and making me feel like I am not alone.. I too often feel like hope is lost and then I see a glimpse of it.. I really get upset at the saying "WHAT DOES NOT KILL US ONLY MAKES US STRONGER". sometimes, because when we take beating after beating we don't always feel stronger. Nonethless, we have to believe that life has to get better for all of us...how much should we be expected to suffer??
God bless you all..
Hugs,
Rox

I think I have been losing hope in my faith and religion...I am vegan, and I just don't understand why so many people who have religious faith don't care about the abuse and suffering and killing of our fellow beings, the animals. I am glad not to eat them, and am happy that I do not partake in this cruel and insane system, but I live with my fellow human beings who seem just to be hypocritical about love and compassion. It depresses me intensely.

I too have always had hope, but more after coming to Mayo. It's crazy how much I have missed being sick half my life, but I am ready to move on with help from some great people in Rochester. They are one of the few places that offer a non invasive treatment program. It has always been my philosophy to hope for a better tomorrow, but I never knew they'd keep getting better and better at this rate!

Living daily with the different obstacles and challenges will definitely try and shatter any bit of hope we possess and it don't take much to take it out of our grasp, but like you mentioned with the help of Mayo Clinic staff and family and friends we can overcome all challenges in life. Let us all keep striving for better days one day at a time.

Funny that you should mention that saying WHAT DOESN'T KILL US MAKES US STRONGER, I use that phrase. I believe I use it because the battles are like a do or die situations and when I make it through by the grace of God, I find it very convenient to say. I am glad to be here to say it because it ain't easy but must keep plowing through the different obstacles. He gives us more than enough to conquer our trials and tribulations. The battle are already won! The proof is in the day; I found this wonderful supportive site! Mayo Clinic! Thank you!!!!! 🙂

Hi Friends,
I am so happy that this discussion is liked and read by many... There are times when having hope can be so challenging because it appears that when we take 2 steps forward something happens and makes us jump back 20 steps. Nonetheless, we have to remind ourselves of our individual and common stories are realize that we are here because somewhere within us there is a glimpse of hope, faith and determination.
Like many of you, I have been through so much but I get up even if forced at times and refuse to give up on myself. So, love yourselves and never give up on yourselves because you have to be your biggest fan during trying times...
Thank you all for sharing & God Bless

Hope changes everything. When hope is lost everything is lost as long as we have hope there is something to hold on to. So my friends don't lose hope at any cost. Live with hope because it is something that will stand by you even when no one else does.

Oh how our faith can be tested making us feel hopeless. Then, something happens and we are rejuvenated giving us hope to continue trying to live meaningful lives. Hugs
