Does anyone have these symptoms along with IBS?

Posted by Bettyann @bettyann, Aug 2, 2012

I have intermittant flare ups with IBS-D...and it started again a number of days ago (a lot of stressful things cropped up)... But for the last several days this has been my pattern: I am pretty OK in the morning, then I eat lunch...careful what I eat, (plus the stress level is down more now) but either within 15 minutes or sometimes longer, the diarrhea starts.
I could DEAL with diarrhea, but soon after (like an hour or so) I am hit with terribly overwhelming tiredness, as well as bloating, slightly headachy, and sometimes discomfort and some naussea... I feel a have a 'heavy sick like feeling' all over. This has been lasting for 4 or 5 hours... then if goes away and I can eat later in the evening with no problems.
Can anyone relate to this weirdness? I would really appreciate your replies.
Thank you!

I am in my 40's and have had IBS most my life, but the last 3 years it has gotten unbearable. The bloating and nausea are very tiring. i believe I have tried most everything. (gas meds, prescription nausea meds, dicyclomine, amitriptyline, Heather's IBS herbal meds. Does anyone have any other suggestions that has helped you?

I get similar flu-like symptoms when I eat anything with HFC (High Fructose Corn Syrup), which is in a great many foods, such as sodas, juices, dressings, sauces, condiments, catsup, cookies, crackers, breads, anything that has it for sugar replacement. The more of it I eat, the worse it gets. Then I have to take Pep-to-Bismol to stop the diarrhea before getting bad hemorrhoids. When grocery shopping, I read the labels to see if HFC is in the item. If so, I try to find a product that does not have it. It helps me a great deal to avoid HFC.

bettyanne I also have IBS-D and I used to have diarrhea also right after I would eat my first meal of the day. Than I started eating fiber like yogurt once a day and take meds amitriptaline and over the counter Metamusal which helped with controlling the diarrhea. But lately I started getting nauseous after I eat a few bites of a meal. My gastroenterologist checked my liver and pancreas and found them to be normal. My doctor said it could be such something I am eating. So when I feel sick I just stop eating until I feel better or no longer hungry. So I kind of know what you are going through but I still would check with your gastroenterologist just to be sure

My family doctor tried prescribing medicines, but I manage it better with either/or/and: Pepto-Bismol, Imodium A-D, and Gas-X Strips, depending on what symptoms I am having. If I take too much Imodium, I get constipation. My doctor has not sent me to a gastroenterologist, yet. I had a colonoscopy in 2010 finding just a small polyp, which was removed. I do not eat too much roughage, drink Lactaid Milk, ice milk, very well cooked vegetables, and avoid certain irritaing foods; and the more I avoid HFC, the better off I am. My mother (age 93) was diagnosed by her gastroenterologist as having ulcerative colitis, after suffering with IBS for many decades. My mother did not avoid foods or take medicines for it before being diagnosed, though. She had 16 inches of her colon removed when she was around 80 because of bleeding and needing blood transfusions. She now takes Pentasa for ulcerative colitis, which seems to keep it under control and is now living in assisted living since July of this year, 2016.
