cryptic tonsils

Posted by LJ1982 @lj1982, Jun 27, 2012

Hi I have this problem that I was wondering if it happened to anyone else. Does anyone else sometimes get white, spongy like plaque stuff that comes out of your throat? It just started happening like last year and I don't know why. Sometimes I have to cough it up.

These tend to form in pockets in the back of the throat. It is food debris that gets caught in the pockets, Sometimes they come loose and you can cough them up. This is wierd but it actually runs in our family. No of us have had our tonsils out and I think we should have. My brother had this also, he developed tonsil cancer. I fear for my daughter because she has these pockets too. I have told her that as soon as she has medical insurance she needs to have her tonsils removed. I bought her a water pic dental machine to try to spray them out, it helps alittle.

Oh No! I have my tonsils still, infact I used to get tonsilitis(don't know how it's spelles) a lot but I heard they don't remove tonsils anymore so i never got them removed. I didn't know you can get cancer of the tonsils but I sometimes have problems with my throat area. I don't know if it's my throat muscles getting tired but when I cry alot or lay on my throat a certain way I get this annoying ache or pain in a certain area. It is hard to explain. Now I am scared.

Also for a couple months I have noticed while I sleep I get this tickle in the back of my throat that makes me have to cough. It is only every now and then. I looked up symptoms of throat cancer and sometimes I wheez, sometimes my voice will be raspy, i don't have weight loss and I don't have a sore throat unless I get sick and i don't have ear pain or difficulty swallowing so maybe i don't have it. Should i still get checked? I almost feel like going to the doctor and having myself checked to rule out every single cancer there is just to be safe. Since my Mom didn't go get checked often and she didn't even know she had cancer, I want to be sure I am okay. I don't want to leave my little girl.

Hi LJ. That is entirely understanding. My parents died with cancer also. Don't make yourself crazy thinking you have it. Go to the doctor to have peace of mind. It could be something as simple as allergys. That can cause raspiness and the post nasal drip can cause the tickle in your throat. Try to live each day; no one is invincible but you cant live your life in fear of getting ill or it will just pass you by. I am a nurse I am by no means a diagnostition but I think you are panicking. I know cause I have been there enjoy your daughter. They grow up so fast. Write me anytime you have fears. I'll try to help in fact we can help each other. Good health love andthe power to fight through each day. Your friend. Jodi

Thank you joanneo you could be right. I have a Dr appointment to get a pap smear because I haven't had one since i was pregnant and that was a couple years ago, When I go in I will tell them everything and I wrote down a list of concerns that I have so I can be checked out for everything. I haven't had a physical ever and with my parents both having type 2 diabetes, my dad having high blood pressure and high cholesteral I need so get looked at. while I was pregnant I had gestational diabetes and they told me there was a chance I could get type 2 diabetes after the baby was born. And i don't exactly eat the healthiest. I still think i am living as a kid and could eat anything i want. I don't get much exercise and I occasionally have fatigue and migraines, Also what concerns me is that for about a few years off and on I have noticed blood after having a bowel movement and sometimes it is hard to go. Actually the very first time I noticed it was in 2001 and I was only 19 at the time so I kinda shrugged it off as being hemmorhoids. But it still happens and now i am worried. And since the drs didn't know if my moms cancer started in her colon I need to know that I don't have colon cancer.

I forgot to mention also I have gas all the time, bloating, sometimes it is painful when I push down on my stomach ( i was trying to examine myself) and for the past couple weeks I have had these annoying pains kinda like cramps in my lower abdomen(where my uterus is). And I ended my period a week ago. And along with that for the past couple months I would say i have had this foul odor in my discharge. It is okay after I shower but then a few hours later it starts smelling again. I don't know if it is a yeast infection or something worse. I am just a worry wart about everything.

Dear LJ,
Hopefully a doctor will do a full blood panel on you. If not, request it. Your fear will cause you more problems then anything else. I'm so very sorry that you feel so afraid, because I have gone through the same thing. If everyone were truthful, they would admit to this, too. We have all experienced groundless fears because we tended to make too big of deal out many things that we are just CERTAIN will 'cause our death.'

I would really recommend that you talk with a therapist about all your fears.. please do consider this. I think it would do you good to just speak to someone who can sit back and take a clear look at the things that are bothering you, and then could help you let them go so that you CAN experience good health. Ask your doctor if there is a therapist that he could recommend. Good luck to you, LJ.

There is a condition (forget the name) whereby you get like 'boils' on your throat. Sometimes they can months to 'go away.' They are NOT life threatening. They can be extremely painful at times, yet not at other times. Sometimes a series of antibiotics helps. Your lymph nodes are located in front, at the top of your neck and under your throat...Google lymph nodes in throat... you will definately know if they are swollen. This can happen just by your nodes fighting off infection.
