Depression but allergic to Prozac, other drugs used for it

Posted by LindaCha77 @lindacha77, May 26, 2012

I have depression but I'm allergic to Prozac and other drugs for depression. Any ideas? I was on something else (hydroxyzpam) not typically used for depression but it's too expensive.

Hi Linda,
There is a new medication called Viibryd. I too have struggled with medications. Remeron is the only one that has given me any type of relief. Doctors get samples so ask if they can give you samples before you spend a lot of money only to find that it's ineffective.

Rox

On meds for depression my whole life 40+ yrs was afraid of organ damage(now least of my problems) but I decided to go untraditional with homeopathics, they really work. I also now take them to control back pain frm failed surgery and I swear they work. I'm taking Guna Mood by Biotheraputics. I found an internal med dr that takes my insurance but ins doesn't pay for meds but 30.00 a bottle 20 drops 2xs a day and saving my livr is good. Research homeopathy it really works. Good luck! deb

With homeopathic medicines, They may work for some and not for others, You alos have to be careful of interactions with other medications. I am on comaudin and you can't mix certain things with this they interact, Alwyas check with your dr before taking anything whether it be prescibed or natural herbal rememdies, Please read Momentums post really brilliant information. Well worth the read. Piglit

Are you also allergic to Welbutrin? It's used for depression and it is the same drug that is used to help people quit smoking. It's not an SSRI or and MAOI. I've been on it for over a year and I've had great results. Side effects are pretty much nothing. I have had some dry mouth and weight loss but that might be from the Adderall that I also take, and let's be honest it's seriously better than the side effects from other depression meds.

I've heard of it but have not tried it. I'm supposed to make an appointment to see my doctor soon so I'll bring it up. Thanks! Hopefully I won't be allergic to it.

It might take some time (like a month) for you to feel the effects. It's hard for me to judge because when I went on it I was recovering from an allergic reaction to lamictal so I was on hardcore steroid meds which mess with your mood. I understand how frustrating it is to try meds only to have them make the situation worse. I hope you have better luck with whatever you decide to do next. đŸ™‚
