Potential penile trauma/pain and tension

Posted by tomlion19 @tomlion19, Sep 8, 2022

For a couple years i’ve been having some odd symptoms with my penis. The 2 doctors i went to have told me I have normal anatomy and even had a clear ultrasound. But i have had issues that are really uncomfortable and bothersome. I think i may have slept on an erection or over masturbated. I have abstained before with no real improvement, but masturbation does worsen the pain i feel especially on the left side. It’s a twinge/stabbing pain only when i press down on my penis flaccid or wear tight underwear. It’s usually a dull ache feeling and the base is very firm and tight. My doc said either scar tissue which the ultrasound showed was no there, or a ligament injury. He just told me to take advil. But it doesn’t seem right. I have hourglassing when flaccid almost all the time and my penis is always tight and retracted instead of looser like it used to be. I hope to hear your advice and thoughts about what might be happening. Im really frustrated. Thanks

Hello @tomlion19 and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I am sure this has been very concerning for you the last couple of years. I can understand wanting to figure out what is causing these symptoms!

I found something on Peyronies Disease and thought it might be worth a look as it mentions some of the symptoms you shared.

Is any of this sounding familiar to you?

Yes it definitely is. Thanks for the reply. I’ve had peyronies concerns for sure, but i got an ultrasound and it was clear. No abnormalities were found in the tissues or veins. Although, im not sure that the ultrasound is 100% accurate and may have missed something. My uro is not concerned about my symptoms and told me to take advil for the pain. I know something is wrong but im not sure how to go about treating it because i dont have a diagnosis. I feel like no one cares about my issue even though it is serious and my penis has really changed a lot. It sucks

Hi Tomlion, I'm wondering as a man of 63 now remembering back to times I had injuries to my penis it can take a while to heal.
My I ask if your still fairly young? As when I was in my teens and the uncertainty of when an election would happen it was fairly common to have an injury due to uncontrolled election particularly at night. So I would say if your young like in your mid teens it may just be a growth issue, but either way the way your describing the current state maybe try wearing looser clothes for a while and give some room to alow good healing. Also temperature is a very common occurrence particularly in the summer. Your penis will do things on its own to stay cool. Heat will cause problems with the sperm and so your body will try to keep that area cool and tight clothing is not wise if your living in a rather hot climate. Just some things to consider. I remember at one point I really thought I broke it and it ended up healing on its own. Hope you get some relief soon and now that summer is winding down may help also.

I hope this will heal but im not sure how to avoid wearing tight underwear especially when playing sports/working out. I guess i could try to wear loose boxers at home more. Im not sure this will help but I appreciate the advice. How long did your injury heal and did you have similar symptoms as me? Its been a while i’m not sure how much longer i can just wait to see if it finally heals.

Unfortunately it was during a time when I was not sexually active and found that I had a noticeable bend in my errection so I figured it may have just been old age setting in. I was going thru a period of heart problems and a heart transplant so sexual performance was low on my thoughts. Since then it seemed to straighten out and is fairly straight again.
But reading thru your description sounded similar to mine. But now I remember at the time if and when I would become active again I would want to get it checked out. But during that time it seemed to straighten out on its own. But I did find out Mayo was on the cutting edge of this area and here is another link to maybe check out

I wish I could help more and I know it must be frustrating. Maybe it's time for another opinion if you have another option in doctors.
