Colon resection side effects: Anyone have urinary tract problems?

Posted by vacationv @vacationv, Sep 8, 2022

I’m three months out from non cancer Colin resection surgery. 18 staples and it wasn’t a walk in the park- anyone else have urinary track side effects? I’m a 69 year old male and picked up a UTI about two weeks out, followed by prostatitis up to a week ago . Still get the strange ache in lower left abdomen when I exercise. Anyone else still recovering this far out?

@vacationv, as you can see from these related discussions, 3 months is not a long time after a major surgery like a colon resection:
- Sigmoid colon resection: What to expect for recovery? https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/sigmoid-colon-resection-10282019/
- Problems months after colon resection surgery: What Helps? https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/three-months-after-colon-surgery/

I'm sorry to hear that you have the added complication of a urinary tract infection leading to prostatitis. I'm tagging members like @troyhenn22 @thull @kkw2 @duckduck2020 @sundance6, who may have some insight.

Vacationv, what is being done to manage the prostatitis?

My primary care put me on an antibiotic which worked nicely plus Flomax.

I was at least 5 months out before I started feeling somewhat back to normal

I had many UTI’s after different surgery. Found a good urologist, no more problems.
