I haven't really traveled but looked forward to it for a long time, and then it never happened. But as I realise I have put my life on hold for so long, something is shifting just a little bit. You say you traveled alone to Japan, and that really is a country I always wanted to experience because it's so foreign and different; I wouldn't know where to start and would be discovering myself in the process as well.

Exactly! You would be discovering yourself in the process and notice that you have changed and are not frightened to travel alone. What courage you will have. The Lonely Planet is always a good travel guide. My best bon voyage!

I traveled to China alone in the past. You can start by collecting travel brochures for where you want to go. I went with a group under a travel program called Travelearn. The leader was a history teacher from Berekely. Decide on what you want to do and see and if there is anything too physically exerting for you to do. Then go and enjoy. I want this Co-vid thing to be over!

One out of the box idea that we have done is to host someone from the country you're interested in to stay with you for a while. Lions clubs around the country frequently have 3 week hosting opportunities. These are usually for youth, but I have also hosted a 56 yr. old lady from Italy. We got to know each other and when she went home she invited me to stay with her. I will also say that this is probably a long shot, but worth checking out. To be in a country with someone who lives there is one of the most authentic experiences you can have.
