After 10 years of being afraid to try Imitrex, I tried it in Feburary 2012. Never mind the uncomfortable mild side effects, they were bearable, but the next day the headache was back. So I take it again. Nest day headache is back. I decide to just deal with it because for 10 years, once a month I have a horiffic migraine ror 3 to 4 days, then it's over. Well not this time. The migraine just does not go away. It's not full blown painfull as usual, but it's there and I am misrable. I deal with this for 2 months, till the neurologist appointment. First of all, this guy is not familiar with migraine at all and wants me to take anti-depressants, and Maxalt. I do online research on the anti-depressant and it warns a strong relationship to suicide. Well don't you want to just kill yourself anyway when the migraine is attacking your life ? So, I do not fill that perscription. But I do get the Maxalt. That stuff has same result as Imitrex. More research for hour and days. I settle on taking magnesium citrate -- 2 tablespoons in a large glass of water in the morning, and 1 T in late afternoon. After 2 weeks I notice a small reduction of the constant pain. Last week I added Vitamin B6 and B12 daily at breakfast. Now it is 3 weeks later since starting the Magnesium, and one week of b vitamins, and I am positive that I am is less pain. I will continue these. I am on a waiting list to be seen at Mayo for these migraines, I am told not to expect an appointment until July 2012 at the earliest. I will try and hold on till then.
I hope this information about my experience will help someone, or maybe someone else has tried this and has had some relief and will share about it.

I TAKE IMITREX, USUALLY HALF OF THE PILL AND LAY DOWN TRY TO THINK POSITIVE THOUGHTS. AS FAR AS MAGNESIUM, MOST PEOPLE ARE LOW AND ALSO LOW IN D3. TRY TAKING B6 AT BEDTIME , B12 DURING THE DAY. IMITREX DOES WORK FOR ME, IF I CATCH THE MIGRAINE COMING ON I TAKE 2 EXCEDREN. I DO BELIEVE WE ARE ALL DEFICIENT IN VITAMINS, TOO MANY PROCESSED FOODS ETC. TRY TO STAY AWAY FROM CHINESE FOODS THEY CONTAIN AN INGREDIENT THAT CAN BRING ON MIGRAINES. I TAKE CYMBALTA FOR DEPRESSION AND FOR THE FIBROMYALGIA. I TRIED MAXALT AND IT DIDN'T WORK. INITREX AND CAFERGOT(I THINK THATS THE NAME ITS BEEN ALONG TIME SINCE I TOOK IT) ARE THE ONLY THING THAT HELPED ME. COLD PACKS HELP ALSO ON THE NECK AND FOREHEAD. GOOD LUCK
