Evusheld Update

Posted by joko @joko, Aug 11, 2022

Thanks everyone on here for info on Evusheld and sharing experiences with the AstraZeneca monoclonal antibodies injections. I was listed on the University of Wisconsin Transplant list lottery, but used the website https://covidsafe.fyi/evusheld/ to check on my county, Door, to see that we didn't have any doses. Contacted them and they ordered some. Yesterday I got the two injections and have had no reactions. Just to share with others who are wondering about Evusheld. About price. My Medicare Advantage insurer checked and it was $0.50 out of pocket. Probably because the Feds bought 1.7 million doses and must be subsidizing. Hope this is helpful.

My experience was also positive, although getting two 3cc doses in each hip was no fun. No reactions or side effects since June and hopefully a good immunity response to COVID19 for this high risk patient.

I had my first Evusheld shot in February, just as it was approved. At that time, the dose was 1.5 cc in each butt cheek. I was the first person at my cancer center to get the dose. Although not a transplant patient, I am highly immunocompromised due to blood cancer and end stage kidney disease. No resulting issues nor any reaction. On 1 September I will have a booster, and get the "full dose".

Good on ya, Ginger! I hope you avoid infection and are kept free of pain and kidney symptoms. Are you eligible for a transplant?

Best wishes and Gottenyu,

@emil Unfortunately, I cannot be considered for a transplant. Being an active blood cancer patient, on chemo, negated that. Plus my kidney disease is from an ultra-rare autoimmune disease, that would cause the same issues on a transplant.

Thank you,

Ginger, I suspected that might be the case as I was thoroughly screened before transplants had to jump through many hoops. I was listed as too sick for major surgery for awhile in the hospital and then somehow became eligible and went to the top of the list because I was close to shuffling off this mortal coil. My recovery has been very bumpy but I’m very grateful for where I am and the life I was given. I’m truly sorry that right now a miracle seems far away for you, but you sound like a person with plenty of compassion and acceptance. My best wishes for blessings and comfort. If I can offer any, let me know. I’m somewhat of a realist and just try to accept life and death as they are: the beginnings of a long, strange trip. So I don’t offer much religious comfort.

Just wanted to add this information, which I found helpful, on how to find out more about Evusheld and where you can obtain it. Here's the post from the creator of the consolidating website.

"Evusheld, a preventive medicine for the immunocompromised to give 88% protection from covid, was announced in 12/2021, but has been difficult to get doses. I built rrelyea.github.io/evusheld as a way to help my immunocompromised wife, and others like her find evusheld.

To help others locate Covid Treatments, I've expanded to also show paxlovid, bebtelovimab, and lagrevio data.

Stay safe!

Thank you.Palm Beach County seems to have low availability.

Hi @jackcurry1 😊
Palm Beach County recently received inventory of Evusheld. If you haven't called your local hospital lately, you may want to reach out (cancer infusion department) or check with your local specialist. It's a new day regarding inventory, which is great!

I received my 1st dose of Evusheld in May while I was in Rochester for my annual evaluation at Mayo. This week I received a notification that I am due and eligible for the 6 month dose. I will not be in or even near Rochester and i need to get it locally. I have contacted my PCP about it and I am confident that he will take care of it for me.
In the meantime, What is your experience with getting Evusheld locally? Was it arranged through your PCP? Will I need to provide any request or eligibility from my transplant team?

NOTE: Nurse just responded and he has not located anyplace locally and I am being directed to call the Cancer Center 40 miles away. Wish me luck!
