Workplace Violence Hurts ... It Almost Ended My World

Posted by Roxie43 @roxie43, Apr 13, 2012

Do you know of someone who has been made to feel worthless by a boss, company,or a culture; that promotes and rewards cruelty to human beings?

Do you think it's o.k. to go to work, work hard and be intentionally hurt by workplace bullies who abuse their power?

Just like bullying in classrooms/schools is leading to bullycide's and a host of psychological issues for our youth, adults in the workplace across the world are also suffering.

Workplace, discrimination and retaliation (if you report the sometimes unlawful behaviors):
Robs an individual of their self worth, causes enormous amounts of stress, exacerbates pre-existing health conditions, can limit one's career growth, results in the hard work one does not being recognized and can also include defamation of character, slander, hostile and unhealthy work environments and even SUICIDE!

Sometimes the behavior can be subtle but the abuser knows exactly what he or she is doing. Often the abuser is manipulative and convinces individuals who they perceive as weak to do the dirty work for them so when the behavior is finally reported they are protected.

I welcome your stories and I also thank you in advance

Hello Friends,
I have a question!
What are your thoughts about an employer calling your doctor after the doctor has submitted a written letter stating that one should be accommodated and return to a safe work environment?
Is this appropriate? Have your employer's called your doctors?
I think this is totally inappropriate! Luckily, my doc's are smart and know when someone is fishing.
They will all be able to meet my wonderful doctors soon. However, phone calls to doctors just seems suspicious.
Please tell me what your views on this issue is... I'm going to ask my co-workers about this as well.
Thanks
Roxie

Hi Joanneo & Piglit,
My doctors are wonderful and would not return any calls without my consent. Just as Piglit states it's simply more of the same nonsense. It really upset me that they would attempt to communicate off the record. Just further proof of how cortupt this employer is.
As if they didn't do enough already! My doctors have written several letters but playing games seems to be the new defense.
Any communication has to be authorized by me and when I showed that the caller was on of the defendants there was no further discussion.
My friends, you have no idea what I've endured because I have not told my entire story. I need to keep things to myself well some of them.
I truly appreciate everyone's kindness and support during such a humbling time. I feel the end of this nonsense coming to an abrupt halt! All of my documents have been submitted and my doctors know how much my health was impacted and will speak to such if need be.
I almost became homeless over a careless and reckless employer but I'm a firm believer that in the end all my pain and suffering would not have taken place in vein.
Again, thank you all!
Hugs,
Rox

l go through the same thing at work, I am in a very busy dept. In the last 6 yrs I developed Myleofibrosis and Fibro and therefore if you don't look sick they think you aren't, talk about me etc I am on fmla, but it doesn't phase my 2 bosses. I have talked to Human Resourses, but if my bosses knew I talked to them I would be fired, my boss did not turn my papers into the company until the last yr, doesn't know what she is doing and then had the nerve to tell me she could get around the flma and fire me if she wanted. i would like to get on ssd, but can't afford it, with the company there is long term disability, but i have used all my sick leave and annual leave. The ones that complain there don't work that much, just stand around and laugh and cause trouble. When i first worked there i went through sexual abuse, but could not do anything about it, so i do understand where you are coming from, just try to stay positive and what goes around comes around Blessings to all

Sadly, it's a lead mental health agency who knows all about HIPPA. Yes, I have a lawsuit. I still cannot wrap my head around all of this.

Once a boss learned that I had bipolar the way that he treated me was similar. I took time off work to return to made up new policies. The treatment was condescending and rude. It was my highest paying job but I quit. The next job was much better and my boss was nice and compassionate. What you discuss is a felony I'm thinking. If you were really approached in a cruel and disparate manner you have a hell of a lawsuit. Will your physicians testify?
I agree with China be firm & turn on the heat. Good luck

I have shared enough at this point. Me...quit? No way! I didn't do anything wrong so why would I quit? Those that intentionally tried to destroy a human life should all go. I'm sorry but anyone that protects individual's like this should be ashamed.

Hi. Don't talk in depth about your lawsuit. Just surprise them. Further, you never know who these people your friends with are. They can be peer's trying to get a step ahead of you. I would advice you to discuss the impact the experience had on your life. No more. I would also file ethics complaints with each discipline. Contact your local chapters. Not judging but trust no one. File the reports you need to and allow yourself to heal and the the law deal with the boss/s.

Hello,
Talking or expressing myself about the cruelty that I have been enduring is important especially since so many others have shared similar experiences. Silence does not help put an end to workplace violence, discrimination and retaliation. Unless more people stand up for their civil, human and employee rights this serious and often criminal issue will only get worse.
There are some people in this world that are truly troubled and hurting others makes them feel good about their sad existence.
I won't be silenced! I'm only just beginning to tell my story and will continue telling it until it impacts CHANGE ...
