Workplace Violence Hurts ... It Almost Ended My World

Posted by Roxie43 @roxie43, Apr 13, 2012

Do you know of someone who has been made to feel worthless by a boss, company,or a culture; that promotes and rewards cruelty to human beings?

Do you think it's o.k. to go to work, work hard and be intentionally hurt by workplace bullies who abuse their power?

Just like bullying in classrooms/schools is leading to bullycide's and a host of psychological issues for our youth, adults in the workplace across the world are also suffering.

Workplace, discrimination and retaliation (if you report the sometimes unlawful behaviors):
Robs an individual of their self worth, causes enormous amounts of stress, exacerbates pre-existing health conditions, can limit one's career growth, results in the hard work one does not being recognized and can also include defamation of character, slander, hostile and unhealthy work environments and even SUICIDE!

Sometimes the behavior can be subtle but the abuser knows exactly what he or she is doing. Often the abuser is manipulative and convinces individuals who they perceive as weak to do the dirty work for them so when the behavior is finally reported they are protected.

Another day without work! Almost 8 months without income from gainful employment. The first time in my entire life and it has been painful, stressful and humbling. To think that some employers have no regard for how their discriminatory practices impact a life is really cruel.
Nonetheless, I'm grateful because both of my doctors have come to the realization that it was in fact my employers maltreatment that caused me to have to go on medical leave and eventually need ECT.
I could never in my life cause another human being suffering. There's simply no excuse for treating another life as if that life were not valuable and precious. So, as I prepare for judgment day and return to work soon, I humbly pray that the lord continues to give me the strength, courage and continued motivation to finally close this traumatic experience.
I'm not hyper-religious but I firmly believe that my grammie who was is watching over me.
So my friends, I hope, that for those of you that have felt or have been made to feel like you don't matter, please know that you matter very much and are just as deserving of human kindness and respect as anyone else!
Sincerely,
Your friend with a voice ...

Is cruelty to people against the law? Have you thought of criminal charges? Have you also given any thought to suing these people individually? Ideas to consider. Good luck.

Im sorry but I'm not a hateful person. Perhaps if I were like the criminals that hurt me I wouldn't have been hurt in the first place. I'm proud of this attribute but even my doctors feel I should be angry especially since I work in the mental health field.
I see it this way, one day all the criminals who could have intentionally ended my life, will be held accountable. I may not be around to witness it or hear about it but in the end I believe that criminals pay for their evil practices.
I know this woman who's mother was an alcoholic and she turned out to be very successful inspite of her troubles growing up. However, success did not matter much because she was conditioned to mistreat other's. She's not a happy human being but it's deserving because you cannot be cruel to others and expect to be happy. Having given this example by no means indicates that I'm judging the mother because she had a disease and we all know or should know that the addiction field has not always been supporting to women's causes. Til this day there are more detoxification and treatment beds for men than women.
So, my point is that if we are not good human beings in time it catches up to you.
All, I can do, is continue being a strong advocate for those that I adore working with .. the clients and unfortunately myself!
Thanks
Roxie

l go through the same thing at work, I am in a very busy dept. In the last 6 yrs I developed Myleofibrosis and Fibro and therefore if you don't look sick they think you aren't, talk about me etc I am on fmla, but it doesn't phase my 2 bosses. I have talked to Human Resourses, but if my bosses knew I talked to them I would be fired, my boss did not turn my papers into the company until the last yr, doesn't know what she is doing and then had the nerve to tell me she could get around the flma and fire me if she wanted. i would like to get on ssd, but can't afford it, with the company there is long term disability, but i have used all my sick leave and annual leave. The ones that complain there don't work that much, just stand around and laugh and cause trouble. When i first worked there i went through sexual abuse, but could not do anything about it, so i do understand where you are coming from, just try to stay positive and what goes around comes around Blessings to all

Hi,
Thank you for sharing with us how you too have been victimized. When one is going through such an experience one can feel so alone and vulnerable. I know I'm not alone and it's so sad that their are cruel people in this world.
I hope you are doing better.
Sincerely,
Rox

Hello Friends,
I have a question!
What are your thoughts about an employer calling your doctor after the doctor has submitted a written letter stating that one should be accommodated and return to a safe work environment?
Is this appropriate? Have your employer's called your doctors?
I think this is totally inappropriate! Luckily, my doc's are smart and know when someone is fishing.
They will all be able to meet my wonderful doctors soon. However, phone calls to doctors just seems suspicious.
Please tell me what your views on this issue is... I'm going to ask my co-workers about this as well.
Thanks

Roxie there is law called hips which protects patient privacy. H I P A. IF THAT DOCTOR REVEALS ANY OF YOUR PERSONAL INFO. YOU HAVE A LAWSUIT. Right to patient privacy is a federal law. They should know this especially if this is a healthcare facility. They cannot obtain any medical info without your permission.
