In Need of a excellent, Neurologist ASAP

@mercynj There are sub-specialities within neurology such as behavioral, cognitive, pain, or neuromuscular. While I don't have a recommendation for a neurologist at the Jacksonville Mayo Clinic campus, it will help others here at Mayo Clinic Connect if you can provide more information on the neurological problem or diagnosis. Is this recommendation for you or for a loved one? What is the age of the person needing to see a neurologist?

I am 53 almost.
being throughout a lot of stress.. in my life. taking care of others too.
I am going to a Chiropractor with a nerve pinch from the left side of my head and left arm. I am dropping and breaking every single thing I hold in my hands. I can't sleep. I am healthy eating and cook everything at home ) organic especially as much as I can. I have never smoked or used alcohol or lived an abused life. My Chiropractor sent me for an X-ray and the XRay showed a very clear left part of my brain going towards my spine, I don't know how to say it, but the diagnosis is Cheri 1. I do want to get a Neurologist from Mayo. My daughter was a patient o Mayo MN I am forever thankful! Thank you Helen

@mercynj Thank you for the information. It sounds like your life has been very stressful and then you've had these symptoms that must be very upsetting. Is your diagnosis chiari malformation?

I'm hopeful that another member will have a recommendation for you in Jacksonville. Do you have a primary care provider? If yes, can they make a referral for you to Mayo Clinic? Or would you like to contact Mayo Clinic yourself?

Same here Cheri. Racing against the clock but I am in California and cannot get my son to the mayo clinic. Even though that is where he probably needs to be!

I was likewise diagnosed w/Chiari Type 2 — and was also born w/Spina Bifida Myelomeningocele L4-5…..

There may be other medical centers that also have specialists for the Chiari malformation. I remember the hospital in NY where I trained had a specific Chiari center.

(Not able to see if or where you or I would be able to filter out those neurologists who do treat Chiari unfortunately but anyhow)

I was diagnosed with Chiari Malformation and Syringomyelia at Mayo Clinic in Rochester MN in 2015. I found the care and treatment I received there was phenomenal! They set the bar incredibly high for patient care.

My neurologist and neurosurgeon at Rochester are very knowledgeable, highly skilled and personable. I always feel like I am talking to a best friend. I continue to see my neurologist on a yearly basis. The neurosurgeon, I no longer see due to a successful surgery, but he will be there if he is needed. I love this team aspect of Mayo! I know I am not on this journey alone.
