Mayo Clinic is interested in improving how primary care patients access care through their patient portal accounts. As part of the Center for Digital Health, we are actively recruiting up to 6 people for a 45-minute user research interview. The virtual interview will take place on August 23rd – 25th during business hours.

To take part in this study you must
1. be a Mayo Clinic primary care patient with an account on the patient portal
2. have access to a computer with internet connectivity and the free Zoom app installed

The research study will require about 45 minutes of your time for a remote interview. You are not required to be on camera.

An honorarium of $60 in the form of a gift card will be provided as gratitude for your time.

No private health information will be shared in this study (e.g., patient ID, test results data, your doctor, social security number.) However, you will be asked to share your experience scheduling appointments with your primary care physician at Mayo Clinic.

Thank you.

@migizii, do you get primary care at Mayo, but don't use the patient portal? Or did you not know that Mayo also offers primary care?

In reply to @collenyoung….I had no idea one could receive primary care at Mayo. A friend of mine had always received her primary care there and now has to see someone I our community before receiving her ongoing care at Mayo, I have only been able to access a few specialists. Thanks for asking. I’d love to be a primary patient but I have been repeatedly rejected by internal medicine.

Are there requirements (rules) around becoming a Primary Care Patient? I’ve been treated at the JAX Clinic, but I’m not currently a Primary Care Patient.

To answer some questions about Primary Care at Mayo. Primary Care at Mayo is sometimes called Community Primary Care. It is for community residents in areas of Mayo Clinic location. Sometimes the clinics are part of Mayo Health Systems.

This is different then Mayo Clinic's General Internal Medicine which patents from outside of community may request appointments. Based on comments in Mayo Connect, there is high demand for those appts and often not available,

Good morning. I have a complicated health history. I live in Rochester, 10 minutes from the Clinic. Primary care is wonderful. A few years ago my PCP said if I get any symptoms or a new problem or any questions to call them. There is a nurse team on the phone to help you decide what to do. They will transfer you to a scheduling person. Most of the time I can get in within a couple of hours. Most of the time you will see a different PCP, not your main doctor. I like this because each doctor sees you in a different light. If you see a specialist like your RO, they send a report to your PCP. PCP will know everything about all of your visits. I had a ED visit and was admitted for 6 days. Mayo also has a palliative care team to monitor your care while in the hospital. A specialist for each problem? At the Clinic you have the best care in the world, and the staff will treat you like a family member. Wonderful teamwork. Everything you do at the Clinic will be known by your PCP to help keep you healthy. The Mayo website has an area for primary care to get started. All of my records are there and never need to bring in outside papers from other doctors. YAY Mayo. The Clinic keeps me alive..........
