Brain Tumor
Hi Everybody,
I'm new here, so I hope I do this discussion right. I was diagnosed with breast cancer stage 3, last June. I had the chemo, mastectomy, and the radiation. I just completed the last of my treatments 8mo. ago. I'm 60 yrs. old, or somewhere around there.
Anyway, last week I went to the hospital because I couldn't walk right, and my arms were a little weak. (I'm o.k. now) They did a MRI and told me I have a brain tumor. It's a Meningioma, which is usually benign. But since I had breast cancer before, it probably could be bad. That's what I'm doing here.
I need to find the best neurologist surgeon at the Mayo Clinic. I'm not even sure what kind of doctor I need. I had the MRI at Baptist, and they said not to worry, and to get another one in 3mo. Well I am worried!
It's weird knowing that something is growing inside your head, that aren't your brains! laugh. That's ALL I can think about. Are you guys allowed to recommend, or talk about a certain doctor? I don't know if I need to get another MRI now, wait, or what doctor to pick.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

How big was it, and where in the brain was it located?

I know that this is the last thing you needed to hear right now, and yes I agree it is a little weird to think of something growing outside your head other than your brain, in 2001 I was diagnosed with AVM's which potentially could lead to stroke, and all these other wonderful things, however after being warned by doctor after specialist after nuero surgeon that if I did not conform and have surgery I would not make it to my 30's. Well I did not conform, and I am here at the age of 36 and still kicking, in Australia I was referred to a nuero surgeon which would be the kind of doctor I would assume you would be looking to see, however before making the decision to cut this tumour out of your brain, my honest advice to you is to do a little research, and weigh up the potential benefits as opposed to the down side. I chose not to get surgery, because I had decided I preferred some kind of quality of life rather than to have the surgery and end up with more problems to do with motor skills, speech, etc. As scary as this is for you, and as hard as you have fort to get past the breast cancer, you have come along way, I can imagine you are tired, and sick of simply being sick, but honey this is what makes you you, you are a fighter from the sounds of things, and you have the determination to beat thing's, just remember that.
I had a surgeon at Mayo named Ian Parney! He is AWESOME but I'm not sure if this is his area of expertise. Dr. O'Neil at Mayo is a guru of brain tumors as well!

Hi Sharon, I myself have just been diagnosed with the Meningioma. I am in very capable hands in Rochester. I am wondering if you ever did get anything done with your tumor??? And of course results. I have not as yet had a date set up for surgery and of course still doing some tests, so time will tell. Just interested how things went with you.
