Online ~ Check In Support Group: All Topics ~ Just Say What's On Your Mind

Posted by Roxie43 @roxie43, Mar 19, 2012

I'm praying to return to full-time work soon, I'm a mom, a grandma, a sister, a daughter, an ex-wife who will always be supportive, a friend, a consumer, a strong advocate for equality, and in being all these things like many of you life can get hectic.
So, I thought that instead of posting about 1 specific topic, I would post a generic discussion so you all can connect and support one another regardless of the topic
We, human beings, have so much to share and express and get non-judgemental feedback on that it seemed logical.
So many of us, perhaps all of us, could use a little breather from what initially attracted us to this website.
I'm sure there are so many other things going on (Good & stressful) in our lives; that we would like to explore and brainstorm on that if given the opportunity we just may be better equipped to confront what originally brought us here.
The common goal is to express yourself, bounce ideas off each other, learn because there is a level of learning that takes place (I have learned so much) and simply support one another.
What I have noticed about my postings on depression is that we have a common thread of discussions and they branch out to other aspects of who we are; work, relationships, stress, burn out, frustrations, joy's, meaning, goals, aging gracefully, side effects and human kindness.
I met a special friend on this site "Piglit", and I'm sure many of you have been blessed by her kindness as well, and it is simply a wonderful feeling, when you can establish new relationships and can give other's a break and expand your support network!
So, who will take a chance and post first?!!"
In solidarity about being good to thy neighbors 🙂

@karma

I suffer from clinical depression and am unable to take any medication to help me. I am trying cognitive behavioral therapy. I am a people pleaser and figured out that I have been all of my life. I help out a lot of elderly people. I love them dearly but need to be with peeps my own age. I have chronic pain and am on disability due to a Chiari One Malformation that I wasn't diagnosed with until the age of 40. The surgery's purpose is to prevent further neurological progression and was not a "healer" for me. I also have three cervical vertebrae that I need to have fused. I am putting it off for as long as possible, hopefully after I sell my house. I am so afraid. Depression is such an all-consuming kind of disease, and one that others refuse to accept. My parents do not visit me because of it, and my brothers have blown me off. One in particular does not understand real chronic pain. He tells me stuff like, "I have Advil days, too. It's part of being 50 plus." No, it is not. Okay, that's my ten cents worth. I am working hard on my spirituality - mine is reading the Bible and praying. I am also learning to enjoy the simple things in life, such as watching the birds, gardening, etc. KC

Hi Karma,
I am sorry for all that you are going through. yes, depression, can be an all-consuming disease but we have to force ourselves to have positive people in our lives and engage in healthy activities so that we can live in peace. Living in peace is often tested because some in this world can be cruel but if we remove ourselves from those elements and distract ourselves a little the good times are worth it. I too enjoy gardening, decorating my home, I love fashion and being around good people.
Being 50+ is not old anymore! However, I understand the decline in the human body which can become worse when we are depressed.
I am sorry that some family has disappointed you. You are not alone in this area either but like I used to tell a loved one many years ago "The Brady Bunch Family really does not exist". Everyone has familial issues and although they can be stressful and hurtful some times a little distance is good.
Continue working on your spirituality, praying and enjoying the simple things that life has to offer.
Hugs,
Rox

Thanks Piglit,
She shared news today that gave me a sense of relief. Her partner of a few years is looking for a home for them two. Now, I can be at peace knowing he'll be around just in case she doesn't feel well. Then, she reported that her pulse has been very high and this needs to be stablelized prior to her procedure.
She was at a training today for her job so at least she's strong enough to work.
I still wish she was closer to me....
