Diabetic Neuropathy "Non Painful" private area.

Posted by abtex65 @abtex65, Jun 20, 2022

I have struggled for years with diabetic neuropathy issues down stairs in private area. I am looking for a group or possible individual(s) I can connect with to discuss. This is not painful however, it has become frustrated since it is not a blood flow issue. It keeps me from being able to get an erection so alone time with my wife is not an option. Unfortunately, sine it is not a blow flow issue there is not a medicine that can help and my only option is a penile implant. Penile implant surgery can not be done because not matter how hard I try I can not get my AIC to below 7 in order to have the implant surgery. I am looking to connect to either a group or individual(s) who I can begin a conversation with as a form of support. I line in North Carolina close to Union County. I am lucky that there is no pain but I am getting frustrated with the fact that erections are no longer possible.

I don't have diabetes, but I started having neuropathy symptoms about 2.5 years ago. No pain, but numbness and tingling in feet and hands. My ED issues started about 8 months earlier. I don't know if these are actually related, but timing makes me curious. ED does not respond to drugs.

Thank you for the reply. I am sure that it is all related to diabetic neuropathy. You hear about diabetic nerve pain all the time but you never hear about diabetic nerve damage and I certainly did not expect it to be downstairs. I expected it to be toes or fingers. Unfortunately, I can not discuss this with people I see all of the time in person such as my pastor or the folks I hang out with at the local coffee shop. My wife is aware and really could care less as this means she doesn't have to do it any more. The worse thing is she kept me in basically a celibate marriage for over the past 25 years of an almost 32 year marriage and now when things can get back to some sort of normalcy I'm the one with the issues and she doesn't seem the care. I wish there was a men's community that I can find where I can vent and talk through these sings to see how they cope with the same issues.

Hello @abtex65 and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I can understand your concern about sharing this with people in your daily circle, so glad that you have joined Connect to see if you can find others who you may be more comfortable sharing your experience with.

I see members @islandfrog and @julkun have joined you already.

I can tell there has been history with celibacy but it sounds like things have changed somewhat in your relationship making it now feel like you are missing out due to your health circumstances. Have you had a discussion with your wife about your feelings and to talk about if she is interested in pursing some level of pleasure in your relationship going forward and what that might look like at this point in your life? Is this a topic you two are comfortable breaching?

Hello Amanda. My wife lost interest many years ago after having 2 kids they became more important to her. I made a commitment before God and man almost 32 years ago, Unfortunately she became disinterested over 25 years ago and when the disinterest lasts as long as it has there is no going back to the way it was with it being my issue now. Yes. my wife is aware as I told her what the doctor's have said. I have also tried all of the medicine which does no good since those med's are only for blood flow and not nerve damage. My wife seems to be content with the issue so there really is no reason to bring up any longer. Thanks again for your reply.

Hello Island Frog.

Sorry for the delay. I also know that medicine does not work as I have tried Viagara, Cialis, Sildenafil, Funky Goat Weed etc. The reason they do not work is they are for blood flow and the issue is nerve damage. You hear about nerve pain but never hear about nerve damage. Not sure if this is strictly related to type 2 diabetes or if Type 1 diabetics experience the same thing. Also not sure why doctor's never talk about nerve damage.

I don't know if its related nerve damage or not. ED occurred prior to any neuro issues. My blood sugar is normal, so no Type 1 or type 2 diabetes. I guess there is no pharma that they can sell for nerve damage, thus no discussion.
