Different Questions re CKD: Hair thinning, anemia and snacks

Posted by nscappa @nscappa, Jun 2, 2022

Hello,
I am wondering if any one with CKD-3 (or other stage) have noticed any hair thinning?? For the last year my hair has thinned so much that I can see my scalp if I look closely and it really scares me. Wondering if it could have anything to do with the kidneys. Also, I have a slight case of anemia. I was told by my nurse practitioner that this may be the result of the CKD-3. On a different note, what do you pick on at night? I do have low-salt popcorn and cucumbers (baby ones). I did just try frozen berries (the strawberries were wonderful for the sweetness that I crave). Any other suggestions? Thank you!
Nancy

Hello Becky
You perfectly explained the one of the reasons that thinning our hair !
I am on Tamoxifen 10 mg
It’s killing even more!
The castor or other oil as well as different treatments are useless.
Wander, if you can give the name of the drugs you mentioned for keeping our hair at place!!

Finasteride is the 70% effective drug and Dutasteride is the 90% effective drug in blocking DHT. You will need a prescription from your pcp and make sure to check out the side effects with any of your other drugs. One side effect that men have is breast enlargement but it may do the same for women too. Also breast tenderness is another side effect for woman. The drug will also raise your testosterone level, yes, women produce it for reproduction reasons. So watch for any unusual hair growth on your body, like a beard or change in your voice. The drug is expensive tho, so it could be in the $100/$200 range for a 30 supply, unless you have a good health care plan. Good luck.

Thank you for the replying.
I think the drugs have the side effect that I wouldn’t want to experience for the sake of better hair in my age.
Taking care for BC not reoccurrence is priority.
Wish you the best!
