I'm having trouble with Nausea While Eating: Anyone else?

Posted by sassydottie @sassydottie, Jun 10, 2022

I’ve been experiencing nausea while I try to eat lately. Just looking at the food, that over production of saliva starts. And then the nausea.
Anyone else?

Hi @sassydottie. Well, that’s no fun! Are you able to work through the nausea and actually eat?
I see that you recently had your redundant colon removed and had been having some continued issues with constipation, having to take Miralax several times per day.
Is this still an issue for you? Have you spoken to your doctor about the nausea.

My doctor sent me to pelvic floor therapy. The specialist there said my pelvic floor was not tight.
I’m sticking with her though, at least learn what I can.
The nausea issue just started 2 days ago. I take Zoltan mid meal & it helps. I’ve not spoken to my doctor yet. Do you think I should?

Since it only started 2 days ago, you could see if the nausea goes away over the weekend.
If the feeling doesn’t improve, considering your recent colon surgery, it might not hurt to call your doctor/np in a few days. Certainly, if your symptoms get severe then seek medical attention sooner. But I’ve had periods of a little nausea if I have any bowel issues. It’s all connected. 😉

You mentioned taking Zoltan…did you mean Zofran? That’s anti nausea medication. It works really but just be advised it can also inhibit the normal movement of the colon and that sometimes can make you feel nauseated too.

Have you started the pelvic floor exercises?

Zofran! Yes, that’s it. It seems like everything inhibits bowel movements. Again, that nausea starts right when I eat. I get that strange salivating sensation in my mouth. The one that happenes right before you vomit. Then the nausea hits when I start eating. It took me 30 minutes to eat my breakfast this morning.
Thanks for sharing your similar symptoms of nausea. I have started Pelvic Floor Therapy. I just completed my fifth week.

I love your @name ☺️ Sassy Dottie. How are you doing today? Any improvement in your nausea?

During all my time on chemo and post stem cell transplant I was on a ton of pills and 3 different anti nausea meds. All of it messed with my digestive system. What helped me immensely to stay regular, besides daily yogurt with ground flax, was getting down the recommended amount of water.
To flush meds through my system and stay hydrated, at least 64 ounces or more of water a day was pushed. It worked!
3 years later I still drink that much and can tell the difference in my bathroom habits if I don’t get enough water along with fiber. I know fiber, both soluble and insoluble are vital to our gut health but if we don’t drink enough water with it, let’s just say, things don’t move alone as well as they should. Sometimes that’s also another cause of nausea.
How much water do you drink daily?

@sassydottie ,
I feel your frustration with the nausea…I fought it nearly two and a half years and lost 70 lbs. So, I’m no expert, but I have been through the mill of nausea treatments. Is the nausea still a problem even with the Zofran?

I hope you are feeling better. Nausea is an awful thing to deal with. I have missed many family gatherings from it. Some mornings the aroma of my husband's oatmeal makes me nauseous.

Upper and lower abdominal issues can cause it.. and many medical problems.

Zofran gives me a headache and sometimes makes things worse. What I found that helps .. not always … but at least 90% of the time is the Reliefband. It is worn like a upside down watch and when you turn it on you choose a number that causes a vibration on the wrist to help calm nausea .. and it also will calm headaches. My husband was having nausea last week and my new one had just came in the mail from Amazon… but you can buy directly from the company for same price. I convinced him to try it and after 30 minutes he said: I would never have believed this would work, but it did. I buy the one with the replaceable battery. I do not want to put one on and need to charge it .. easier to replace the battery.

Zofran helps a little. What’s so odd about this is that it only happens in the morning. (Not pregnant)
What has your nausea like? Was it linked to anything?

I too have nausea on a daily basis due to dilated liver and pancreatic ducts. I have been prescribed Phenergen, which I find to be helpful.
