Endless withdrawal from benzos and pregabalin

Posted by chaos @chaos, Jun 3, 2022

Hi,
I’m at my wit’s end. I have been withdrawing for so so long that euthanasia is looking good to me. Since last November I have withdrawn from clonazepam and closely followed by pregabalin. Actually still struggling with the later drug. I am not sleeping, full of anxiety, fear and wanting to off myself. It feels like every week I reduce the drug, I lose hope that things will get better. I don’t have anyone in the medical system that understands withdrawal from these drugs.
It would be good to connect with people that have gone through this process and have improved their lives.
Also, I’m not sure if there is a discussion already in place for this topic.

I am a bit confused as to which dose you are asking about. I was on 4mg of clonazepam on and off over 30 years. I was on 300mg of pregabalin since November of 2021. I came off the drug one night at the insistence of a pharmacist due to some serious side effects. I was completely crazy with withdrawal symptoms and told to tough it out since it would only take 1-2 days. This was not true at all. I went back on 300mg and have been reducing weekly. I am currently at 75mg.
I also have high dose bio-identical progesterone that has been helping through all of this. This drug would be at 1200mg per day. Without it, I fear that I would have died by now.
Hope this helps.

😳 oh my. The only thing that knocks we out is benzos or mirtazapine both poisons in my estimation.

Sorry you are going thru something nobody could possibly understand unless they have been there. I Started my taper last June 4, 2021, was on Lorazepam 6MG for at least 11 years. My Doctor and Psychiatrist dosed the 6MG of Lorazepam with 0.5MG of Clonazepam. Finished my taper March 2022. I was so happy to be off all the medications I had been on to get off the Lorazepam. I suffered a lot with the taper and many times told my Psychiatrist I felt like I was in Protracted withdrawal. Of course you are not, says she! I had a rash, hives, sleep deprived and still am. After 5 days off Clonazepam I awoke in the middle of the night with terrible dry mouth, upper and lower lip swollen and my gums had receded, and a burning swollen tongue. I won't go into the gruesome detail that I have gone through. Worst part, nobody had any idea how to make me feel better or tell me why this happened to me. After days on line researching I had more questions than before. I decided to ask the pharmacist at Walgreens what 6Mg of Lorazepam equals to Clonazepam ARE YOU READY FOR THIS 3MG. I was given the wrong dose to taper. We all know slow, slow, and slow when tapering from a Benzodiazepine. I had a rapid taper and suffered unmercifully and still have new symptoms that crop up weekly. Not one Doctor has a remedy to relieve my pain and suffering. Everything I heard and read tells not a good idea to start over. I have a problem that does not happen very often and I really do not want to scare or upset you. No matter what, I will not give up. I am 79 years old and I am determined to get better. Please let me know how you are doing, you happened on an incredible web site.

What you have described is horrific and I am very similar to you. I am 70 and I have thought I was having a cardiac issue because of the palpitations. No sleep, hot/cold sweats, anxiety that is beyond belief and fear. My hair fell out because of the drug and I look as if I I’ve aged 5 years in just 6 months.
I was on 4mg of clonazepam, Zolpidem for sleep and then the lyrica for spinal nerve pain. No one seems to understand this. It feels like no one cares at all. Even my husband has been pushing away from me.
I am all alone in this.
I am sad that you are still suffering, but I am also so glad that you reached out to me.
Thank you.

Tricyclic antidepressant. It’s an older antidepressant and the newer ones are SSRI’s less side effects. I took mirtazapine 7.5 mg for sleep. Side effects are bad including suicidal thoughts. Before Covid I never took any drugs, just supplements. It appears I may also have sjoygren’s syndrome as well although the medical community is difficult to work with on this. I have severe insomnia, dry eyes, dry mouth, no taste, drinking water tastes metallic , no appetite, 30 pound weight loss ( not intentional) and severe hair loss.

Rapid tapers do cause terrible suffering. It’s sad we have to to go on public forums for medical advice because the vast majority of doctors know nothing about Benzos, antidepressants and tapering. All they know is how to write the scripts. And then they pretty much kick us to the curb.

You must try your best to be positive, otherwise you will get very depressed and that makes you worse. Are you going on line and researching? I have learned volumes about Benzodiazepines and how much my Doctors have not a clue how to treat, prescribe, and taper if needed. Somehow the Doctors must have culpability as well as us. Since they prescribed the medications they definitely should have warned us about all the side effects. I take zero medications now and have suffered insomenia because I will not take Benadryl or anything they recommend. I can't have Coffee any more or Hot Chocolate because of the caffeine in them. We are not alone out there, many people are suffering from Benzodiazepine prescriptions. Keep in touch and I will as well just in case I have any good news that will help us.

All of these things have happened to you since Covid? My God, it’s hard enough just dealing with Covid without having these things as well.

Thank you. I am glad to have someone like you to talk with. We have very similar experiences. I also believe doctors must take responsibility for prescribing without informing. Doctors don’t seem to be held to the same rigorous standards anymore. But they always had a huge pharmaceutical “bible” for referencing drugs in their office.
I will gladly stay in touch.
