Anyone has high fever from MAC during flare up?

Posted by caontm @caontm, May 28, 2022

I have MAC since 2017. In the past two years it is tame and I only take antibiotics during flare up when mucus became yellowish and had low fever (99.5F) However, since this year, my flare up is more frequent and my mucus did not abate after antibiotics. My fever jumped to 102F. I wonder if anyone expeirenced high fever during flare up and what suggestion you have to manage this. Thank you!

I have been going through similar flares for the past nine months without knowing it was bronchiectasis with which I was recently diagnosed. I found that taking Ibuprofen first and then two hours later taking Tylenol and repeating this cycle usually helped with my bad flares of 101F fever and moderately severe body aches. Usually only a few cycles of these meds brings my aches and fever down to where I can tolerate them but I do not have MAC (I was recently told I have H. Influenzae). Good luck finding a way to manage them, those flares are not fun!

Lyle’s situation isn’t similar to mine. I do have night sweat daily, feeling hot at night, but I always feel chill during the day even in summer time, as if wind blows in my back. The high fever is when I flare up, but previously never such high fever. Maybe this is a sign of progression of MaC. Thank you for all your help!
