Adrenals and how do you know if their not working

Posted by jaderm @jaderm, May 18, 2022

Hello. So recently diagnosed with hashimotos. I know my gut is super unhealthy because I never go to the restroom. I know thyroid problems can mess with your whole body function if not treated right. I can’t get into a endocrinologist due to a referral. So I’m gonna go see a dr that specializes in natural medication. My brain fog seems to be getting worse. ( I already have memory problems due to epilepsy) my eye has been twitching and vision seems to be getting a little blurry. Has anyone had success with seeing a natural Dr. For thyroid problems?

Hashimoto’ thyroiditis is an autoimmune disease.
Can you explain in more detail how and why you were diagnosed?
Also, do you need to take medication?
Seeing an endocrinologist is a good idea. Are you unable to get a referral from your primary care doctor?
In my opinion, it would not be a good idea to see a natural medicine doctor. They don’t have the specific training to properly care for you.

I have an endocrinologist, but my problem is weight gain. I have a BMI of 32.44 and also have congestive heart failure (CHF) and have a pacemaker. I am not an avid physical fitness butt, but I live alone and take care of myself at 75 years old. Since Covid-19, I am not as active and wonder where I can get meal planning tips that are suitable for a diabetic. Some of my medications need to be taken with food so sometimes I eat as late as 9p and go to bed shortly thereafter. Can I take medication 7 or 8 hours apart instead of 12?

Sorry for the late response. I was diagnosed after I went to my obgyn cause I thought I was pre menopause. I’m vitamin D deficient. On generic synthroid I also have epilepsy and I feel like my memory is getting worse. I can’t get a referral from my Nero. And I was thinking about going to see a natural Dr but I hear so many mixed reviews

@jaderm - Thank you for getting back to me.
For many women their OB GYN becomes their primary care physician. I assume your doctor ordered the tests because of symptoms you mentioned or findings on physical examination?
Since you started taking the generic Synthroid have you had follow up test to see if your level is good?
Many adults are Vitamin D deficient- supplemental Vitamin D usually helps.
Regarding your epilepsy, did that start in childhood? What medication are you taking?
You need referrals to Endocrinologist and Neurologist, right?
Does your health plan make it difficult to get referrals? Would your OB GYN refer you?
I understand that you are concerned about worsening memory.
Medications for epilepsy could possibly cause it- that’s why you also need to see a Neurologist.
Another question- can you self refer to specialists?

Hi, disagree about the Dr in Endocrinology I have been to 11 and none have helped, they don't beleive in doing certain tests and their concentration is on diabetics conditions or ppl that their TSH is high and all they have to do is prescribe a pill but with Hashimoto been an autoimmune condition they are clueless. My labs are mostly fine besides the FT3 which is below range always and they ignore this and I have inner shakiness, headaches it affected my cardio also and have read that the T3 have to do with all of this but they don't want to listen, very frustrating. Good luck with any Endo
